Not sure I'm that harsh about his ability, although you make a good point about who else we can get with limited funds. Depends how much he costs I suppose. Anything over £2m would hurt for someone who is just going to be a backup.

If we are going to replace anyone in the back line I would prefer to see us going for someone who is appreciably better, and I don't think that he is.

Easily. I don't know why everyone is excited by this signing. I still remember people telling me why Julian Dicks was a good signing for us at the time. Can we really not do better than this?

I think he is a decent signing, Rafa wants a big tackler, looks like he got it, we cant sign a Daniele Agger every time we buy a defender. He is hard, has shown he has ability at the very highest level (world cup) so his signing represents good business for Rafa, especially if we pay about 500k for him.

With the New FIFA rules, Neill can buy out the remainder of his contract and leave on a free. Anybody know what wages he is on?

I can't but feel that if it hadn't been for the fact he broke carra's leg eveyone would have a different view of this transfer, he had a cracking game at anfield this season, and while yes there are better players out there, he should be a good solid signing and he know the EPL well. I can't understad why people think he's more trouble than he's worth. Thats just bollocks to me

Neil is great player for Australia with good players around him.

I think he will be good cover for Agger or even to play alongside him.

He'll be a decent signing.

One plus is that he's a hard dirty crim. And we do need more hard men in our squad, too many lightweight softies. The likes of Neill are ideal for away trips to ****ty midtable sides and Bolton, who hoof it and get physical to beat you.

Whether he's really good enough is another question. Probably not. But as a bridge until the summer when we can get somebody better in, we could certainly do a lot worse.

Not a bad price for a player like him. If we don`t pay him to much a week we can just sell him in a years time.

To be honest I personally would love him to sign for us as he is a great defender who will offer more than Finnan on a larger scale. I hope he plays against us so we can see just what we are getting.
