Agreed. Exactly what we needed when he arrived. He’s been a superb addition to the squad, setting the perfect example to everyone - seasoned pros or newbies.

That’s definitely been his role the last few seasons but when he first joined he was also for a long time one of the better midfielders.
He’s out in some excellent performances over the years and I’m not sure the team would have won the trophies they have without him.
When Klopp started to get momentum transitioning the side from nowhere near to title contenders, it sometimes felt to me like they only had one ridiculously intense speed, one of the last parts of the evolution was being able to see games out by slowing them down. Milner was hugely helpful at that when he’d come on with 20-30 mins to go.Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

He played some games as a striker at LeedsOriginally posted by Charly View PostHe was always useful to have on the bench because he could cover any position on the pitch in an emergency (I think the only positions he never played were striker and goalie).
I do think his age has caught up, and Id rather give the kids a go in midfield, and bring in a replacement right back.
Should have a statue errected in honour of old blokes doing **** everywhere.

I agree with all the platitudes above but we need him and his 150k p/w off the books. Right now he is a liability on the pitch giving away stupid free kicks because he can’t run (fast) anymore. Klopp seems to have done fixation with having him or Henderson or both on the pitch which is not helping the team
Pat on the back for a job well done but we move on - hopefully the same for a bunch more this summer. We need to be ruthless and fully commit to the rebuild meaning we have a transition year next year. If we are keeping this shape then Robbo is another I’d look to move on as well as Thiago and Henderson
Rip it up, a year to blend and go again. Napoli binned off about 8 players and a lot if their leaders and bought really well - new team, new dynamic and the first league in 30 odd years…..

Thiago is gone after next season anyway so the natural evolution will continue. Could argue that Henderson should have been let run his contract down rather than having had it extended too.
Totally agree about a rebuild being needed, though it is a more dramatic rebuild now than it needed to be imo.
Do think if we buy smart this summer that next season may not necessarily be a transistional one though.
Get the midfield replacements right and if they settle quickly, then the improvements could be happening quickly.
Great thing about a **** (by our standards) season is that the improvements always seem and feel great when they begin.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I pretty much feel the same. We will be much more incisive once our forwards can trust what is going on behind them again.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostThiago is gone after next season anyway so the natural evolution will continue. Less turnovers will help our back line a lot also.
We, well Michelle and I anyway, decided on Saturday night that my starting midfield for next season is to be
MacAllister---------Thuram
-------------Rice-----------
With my back ups to be
Jones/Thiago----------Gravenberch/Henderson
---------------Fabinho--------------------------

With our injury record we need eight.
Now I of course would make room for Barella/Kone/Mount/Ugarte etc should they be available instead of some my new midfield
TAA gets told to **** off back to RB because after watching him from the stands for two games in a row I really do not like needing to play effectively four CM to accommodate him being in that inverted position and him still getting caught flat footed a lot and when we get pressed.
The current set up really suits him when we have the ball, but looks lop sided when we do not have the ball and looks like we are a man down at times when we are pressed or get countered.
Though I think us copying City (from last season when they had Cancelo constantly being an inverted FB causing an overload in the middle and this season where they have Stones causing an overload by being an extra DM when they have the ball and going back into CB when they get pressed) is a means to a need for this season and that when the midfield is able to stand on it's own feet effectively that we will go back to TAA playmaking from RB/RWB as a fully mobile midfield gives us back the lack of turnovers and quick cover we have three or so seasons ago.I don't hate people.
