I think its about what they've done for the club. As a whole, legend is overused nowerdays though as it has become more used as a descriptive term in everyday life.
Im my eyes Liverpool legends are
Kenny
Gerrard
Shanks
Rafa
Fowler
Carra
And people of that ilk.
I then think there is a section below that for people like
Torres (when he was here)
Barnes
Alonso
Aldo

Jellyfish are 97% water or something, so how much are they doing? Just give them another 3% and make them water. It's more useful

On what basis is Torres on that second list? I wouldn't argue about the rest but there is no way that guy should figure on a list with those others who might not be legends but are certainly considered in high regard by the club. He is just some cheap throw away striker that scored a lot of goals and then easily forgotten. In terms of my respect, Baros and Cisse deserve more, at least they showed respect and commitment to the club.

Sorry, but I'm guessing that you're not as old as me because for me Barnes is clearly in the first category, not the second. To put Barnes in the same category as Torres is rather harsh on an incredibly talented player who gave us the best years of his career, was a key part of the epic team of the late Eighties, won a number of titles, and only left when we deemed him surplus to requirements.

There are so many reasons that someone could be described as a legend. For me, someone like Titi Camara is certainly up there because of what he did in that one season for us when the rest of the strike force were out injured. The goal at Highbury was memorable, but the one against West Ham remains one of the most striking images in my time as a Liverpool fan, not because of the goal itself, but because of his reaction (breaking down in tears in front of the Anfield Road end) and the subsequent revelation that his father had died the night before, and that Titi insisted in playing because he was our only fit striker. Modern players could learn much about loyalty, decency and dignity from that man.
And there's a huge gap between Paisley and Rafa in legendary status. If I had to choose one manager then Paisley would get the nod over Shankly too tbh

Barnes has to be on the first list. IMO he's probably in the top 5 LFC players of all time.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
I think it's about impact and contribution to the team, preferably over a long period of time. I guess ideally silverware will come with it.

Hes clearly not that old because he hasnt included our most successful manager ever (Paisley) in the list and hes missed out people like Souness, Rush, Hansen, Smith, Callaghan, St John, Hunt, Liddel etc.......
