Yeah Aberdeen were never going to be able to compete with Celtic over a season, but it was good to see them make a game of it today until the 80th minute where fitness became an issue. They really should have been up before then, given McLean had an open goal chance.

Sure 1983 was a generation ago (they got to the semi final of the ECWC in 1984 and were cheated by a corrupt ref and won the Super Cup in 84 too), but to say they were only relevant between 81 and 85 is incorrect. The momentum of being a successful club carried on until the mid 90s - they were the only club able to challenge Rangers when Celtic were struggling. 1991 went down to the last day of the season and 93 was the treble runner up season.

But yeah, Celtic are streets ahead financially. The others can't compete.

But still, I don't think they present Celtic with great competition, and rarely have.
Yep, we can definitely relate to a team that was once great.

Scottish football epitomises what's wrong with football in general. My local team Hearts have shipped out a load of promising younger players to replace them with journeyman European players who are out of contract. It's dull and uninspiring as is a lot of football these days.

The New Firm for most of the 80's were as dominant as the Old Firm have been since.

Scottish football is ****, but the final today was a good game. The reason Celtic win everything is and always has been purely down to money. They outspend the rest of the clubs in the country combined.

Also Preston have never beaten Real Madrid in a Euro Final.

Sorry but they only had pedigree when SAF managed them - you know that. And when did they win the CWC? 1983? Come on, Preston have pedigree by similar standards.

Seriously, without Rangers, the Scottish competition is a bit of a joke. Good on BR and Celtic for not getting beaten, but winning everything should have been a minimum.

Aberdeen played well today. They didn't have the legs for the last 10 mins.

I'd take Leigh Griffiths as backup striker, knows where the back of the net is. Not first choice of course.

Agreed. I think Brendan will manage to keep him for another season, but long term I think he will go to a big club.

Same, I like him and his attitude. If the plan is to stick with Milner for a while which it seems to be then he'd be ideal. Dunno if he's got any interest in leaving as he loves them but money usually talks!
