    Yup.

I don't think he'll ever come back as a player, but he's the sort of signing that we need to make in the summer.

Selling Xabi was the start of our decline. After he left it all went too ****. That summer should have been about getting that one or two players in the make us stronger after finishing second as united had just sold ronaldo. If we had done that we would have been the best team in the league the following year IMO. Such a shame our club seems to specialise in self destruction.

I think our decline properly started when we sold Masch.

Rafa really ****ed it up with Alonso. No getting out of that one I am afraid.

He really didn't had any other choice than to sell one of Torres, Gerrard or Xabi. We had to pay a £30m interest on a loan.

The Xabi money probably saved the club from going out of business.

Yup, hands tied by the gruesome twosome in terms of funds to strengthen the side but losing him and not making him feel an integral part of the side was bad management

His final season was excellent, but his penultimate season had been disappointing.

At the time he wasn't an integral part of the team and was under performing.

Rafa has never said that though and I am sure if it really was the case, which it could quite well be, he would have said it by now.

Welcome back Arn btw, good to see u!

He suffered several niggling horrible injuries that really affected him but once fully fit he showed his true class. I never doubted him.

Xabi isn't an angel himself. As already pointed out higher wages and less taxes was a big part of why he left.

I would still love to have him back.

So in a way Rafa forcing Xabi out actually helped the club rather than damaged it ??

He left because of how he was treated by Benitez in the summer of 2008, Xabi has said so himself, things like higher wages were just a bonus.

At the time he was a world class player, a truly world class player not just one we call that because he's one of ours, who was on a form slump due to his run of injuries.

He's the posterboy for the cliche. Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Will we be saying similar about Reina in a few years time?

Just think we're maybe sometimes a bit quick to give up on players. A lot of people wanted to replace Alonso with Gareth ****ing Barry.
