I was 10 when we signed him. Very quickly he became my hero.

we were truly blessed with the best team in the world. the whole world

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Barnes was just a stunning player. Such a shame he had that injury in '92 which took something out of his last few seasons at the club (that and having Souness as manager), but previous to that he was one of the most talented players ever to pull on our shirt. And even after it he was still a hell of a footballer.

And he was also probably the most talented player ever to play for England
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                Mine angry and defrauded young?

My abiding memory of my first game at Anfield on the kop as a nine/ten year old was being awestruck and thinking 'that's John Barnes' 'the real John Barnes'. That and thinking I was going to die when the crowd surged after we scored.

I'm a bit too young to remember Kenny at his best.

THIS guy was and always will be my #1 LFC hero.

My favourite Liverpool player of all time (by a mile).
Barnes was pretty much the reason I supported Liverpool.

Also, have to say that as far as ex-players speaking about the club, he makes the most sense to me. Well, most down to earth.
