Shame Suarez couldn't have taken a leaf from his book and gone on to be a Liverpool legend like Barnes is, but its a different era now and Liverpool are so achingly far away from the levels of that period, I suppose we can't really expect to get the same mutual respect from short term careerists with no real ties to the country and its traditions, let alone the club.

Barnes though - nowadays with the skill, consistency and athleticism he had would have been an £85m player. Suarez, as good as he is on the pitch, putting aside this summer's tantrums, couldn;t reach Barnes's level.

Nothing must have terrified a right back more than the huge frame of Barnes speeding down the wing with the ball before cutting inside them effortlessly to either blast into the top corner of the net or to sling an accurate cross for Aldridge to slot home.

My favourite ever player - what a player!
Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

Was pretty good........my favourite player growing up.
Interesting that Taylor didn't share the opinion regarding the colour of your skin and management roles, but didn't really get the chance to expand on it.

Barnes was my favourite player growing up. But his management opportunities for an untested new coach can hardly be complained about. He was given chances at Newcastle and Celtic and was utterly awfull, it's not skin colour holding you back Johnny.

When you look at Ince working in the lower leagues and the routes to premiership management for the handfull of other black coaches, Barnes' experience shows that reputation will get you the chance, but then you have to deliver, same as every other coach.
