    Gerrard excited by arrivals

Liverpool stalwart Steven Gerrard has expressed his delight at the calibre and quality of signings the club has made this summer.

The Reds have spent big in the transfer market this summer with manager Kenny Dalglish adding no less than four new faces to his squad.

The Anfield club have added the likes of English talent Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing from Sunderland and Aston Villa respectively along with landing Blackpool ace Charlie Adam and Brazilian keeper Alexander Doni from Roma.

Gerrard, who is set to miss the start of the new Premier League season, believes the signings will be beneficial because they will add strength in depth ahead of a long and hard campaign.

"I believe we've made some very good signings this summer, with Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Doni all coming in," he told the club's official website.

"Hopefully there will be one or two more arriving before the transfer window closes. You always want competition for places because it's a long season.

"Obviously it gives the manager more options and it also pushes the players on because they know not everyone can start every game."

Gay men have voted Steven Gerrard the "hottest player" in the Premier League.

The Liverpool and England midfielder topped the table in a poll conducted by Gaydar.co.uk, the UK's largest online gay dating website.

More than 4,200 users responded to the survey in which they were also asked to rank players in categories such as "best legs" and "worst haircuts".

Fernando Torres, who left Liverpool for Chelsea earlier this year, was in second place whilst another former team-mate, Peter Crouch, received only 2% of the vote, leaving him bottom of the list.

Chelsea's Frank Lampard had to settle for third place and Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, who is linked with a summer move to European champions Barcelona, was named the fourth "hottest".

Reigning Premier League champions Manchester United, who beat local rivals Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday, were voted the best-looking team but their star striker Wayne Rooney was identified as having the "worst hair". The 25-year-old received 50% of the vote after opting to have a hair transplant.

The survey also tackles the more serious issue of homophobia in football and 12% of those polled said they would not feel safe at a Premier League match and more than two-thirds of gay men do not attend football matches at all.

Simon Johnson, product manager for Gaydar.co.uk, said: "It's not surprising that only a small number of gay men go to football matches.

"What is shocking is that so many aren't going because they're worried about their safety due to homophobia within the sport."

Anton Hysen, who plays in the Swedish fourth division and is the son of former Liverpool defender Glen Hysen, is one of only a handful of openly gay professional footballers.

In an interview on GaydarRadio, he said: "I have found that my fellow team members and fans have accepted me for being who I am and what I believe in. I hope this will resonate out across the whole footballing world."

Imagine how harsh it would be if we won the league and he'd only played 8-9 games.

                  Gerrard Injury

I may be jumping the gun a little here, but there have been one or two reports that suggest that Steven Gerrards injury may be worst than first feared and that it could spell the end of one of the greatest ever LFC players..

What's everyone elses views on the injury?

Do you see him back in September? Is it just a precautionary measure, giving Steve more time off so the he's less likely to experience a repeat of the same injury? Or is it Kenny's way of finding a way to get him out of the internationals?

                  Thoughts?

Steven Gerrard to begin light training at Liverpool

Steven Gerrard will return to light training with Liverpool this week as the club captain continues his recovery from the infection that ruined his start to the new Premier League season.

The Liverpool midfielder has not featured for Kenny Dalglish's team since March due to groin surgery and his scheduled return in August was postponed when he suffered an infection related to the operation. Gerrard was released from hospital almost a fortnight ago and has been granted permission to resume light training. "Stevie will be stepping up his recovery this week," Dalglish said.

Liverpool have not, however, revised Gerrard's comeback date of mid-September and the 31-year-old is expected to miss England's European Championship qualifiers against Bulgaria and Wales at the start of next month.

Martin Skrtel will also return to training at Melwood this week as he recovers from a calf injury suffered in pre-season, but the luckless Fábio Aurélio is facing another extended period on the sidelines having damaged his achilles tendon in training on Friday. Liverpool have yet to discover the full extent of the injury-prone defender's problem.

Aurélio's untimely absence forced Dalglish to hand an immediate Liverpool debut to José Enrique against Sunderland on Saturday, despite the Spanish left-back completing a £6m move from Newcastle United only 24 hours earlier.

José Enrique enjoyed an assured start to his Liverpool career and said Andy Carroll, his former Newcastle team-mate and now Anfield colleague, will justify his £35m price-tag now he has overcome the thigh and knee injuries that interrupted his debut season on Merseyside.

"Andy was brilliant for us at Newcastle and I am sure he will be the same for Liverpool," José Enrique said. "He is a very, very good player. When a club like Liverpool pays £35m for Andy, I know it is not by chance. It is because they think he is a good player.

"I watched him play last season and I knew he wasn't fit here. I don't care if the player is Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, if a player is not fit, then he cannot play properly. He is playing very well in his position and he is going to be an important player this season."

Stevie loos like he was carrying a few pounds on that pic the other day, think he needs to shed that before starting.
