I agree. It's up to gerrard. Obviously you would hope he makes sensible decisions about when he can and cannot play for England but I understand his desire like the majority of other players who aspire to play for his country.

Gerrard should have said no over a week ago.

Now he said no either yesterday or today. That means that he hadn't ruled out playing for the national team until then.

Playing for england will be detremental to his Liverpool career and Liverpool must come first. If ditching England benefits LFC, it's what he should do.

I've had second thoughts on this one - Uruguay's games are friday and tuesday, so he will be back in Liverpool by Wednesday - gives him around 72 hours before the manc game.
