Not so sure myself, he had one blast from distance that went over the bar then Hendo nicked the ball off him when he was about to put his foot through another. And he let Hendo know about it! He will bang one in from distance very soon.

Agreed. Blasted one over against QPR. He can definitely still power them - it's just the accuracy that's gone.

I think he'll get more goals with the right pass. He has been making some great runs at times this season but don't think the pass was right.

Souness always used to coment on how Gerrard does not have the discipline to play in central midfield, 'he empties it too quickly'.
I'm sure rafa tried to curb the amount of running Gerrard did, and playing him higher up the pitch where he wasn't emptying the midfield quickly helped both defensively and offensively.
That stat of him running so much - is that really a good thing? especially at his age, why is not playing his position and letting other younger players do the running?

sorry mate, you know how you have carried us for most of your career and have stuck by us when most players would have jumped ship, well your reward for the next year or two is to half your wages. its ok though as they'll be other players at the club that aren't fit to lace your boots earning similar. happy? thought so..sign here.

There is no doubt that loyalty is important but interests of the club need to be at the heart of every financial decision and to reward someone 100k per week in wages and give him a new long term contract, the performance level and contribution to the team would need to be at extremely high level to warrant that type of wages and that is not the case any longer with Stevie.

Stevie is a living legend of the this club but he is not a world class player any longer and he wouldn't get that type of wages anywhere else.

He is already 32 and by the time his existing contract is up he'll be 34 and we should not be repeating the same mistake we did with Carra when we rewarded him with 90k per week, which he clearly didn't deserve.

Rafa got the best out of him by focusing Gerrard's efforts in areas of the pitch where he could do the most damage - not by charging around all over the pitch trying to do everything. It's a surprising stat, admittedly, but I'm not sure it's all that positive.

There is no doubt about his work rate. The performance he put in against QPR was vintage Gerrard. But he has lost something that was so vital and we were so reliant on: his shooting from distance.

The irony is I was reading an interview that Wilfred Zaha did and he was talking about the call up he had to the England squad. He said the level in training was so high and he said that the power in Steven Gerrard's was unbelievable. It makes me think, he may have lost confidence in shooting during games after his injury. As you may have seen Tee at that tournament, I have a powerful shot when I'm practicing shots but during games I can't pull any of those shots off as I have zero confidence due to that injury I had to my knee.

The Abidjan-born player is aware that any move will see a significant step up in quality, having had his eyes opened by his experiences while training with the likes of Steven Gerrard ahead of his England debut last month.

"The little bits we did in training with England were more intense than I'd been used to," he admitted.

This! He was given a contract that reflected his abilities within the wider game. He used to be head and shoulders above most in the world, let alone the team, but as his powers wane so should his wages.

He'd still pull in £60-90k a week though which for a 34 year old (as he'll be at the time) isn't a bad. He'd get more in China, the U.S and out in Quatar if he wanted it but there is no room for emotion at the business end, especially not a million quid a years worth of emotion.

I agree there's more than one way to look at it and it might indicate tactical indiscipline. All the same it totally disproves the seemingly popular contention that his legs have gone, albeit that he's probably lost some pace.
