it's going to be close to beat Beckham

    108 vs 115

if i am right, there will be what, a friendly in march and prob a warm up game or two?

so if he is fit an plays in them, it will take him to 110/111

then 3 group games gets him to 113/114 - again providing he is fit.

Meaning he needs england to get through the groups and win their 2nd round match at the very least.

i hope for himself, he does it - would be a great achievement - but it'll be tough

He will beat the record. I doubt he will retire after this World Cup. The Euros in France would be his swansong I think.

Maybe he wont be Captain. But an old head like him around the younger players would be invaluable. Lampard is still playing at 35.

There will be at least 2 warm up matches I would say for the WC maybe even 3. It is very achievable. If he wants it enough he can always have a 'goodbye' match in Wembley or whatever to crack the record.

Ok, so its only the friendly with the US thats confirmed. Others will be decided when we know what the WC groups are.

so 3 warm up games and there is a game against denmark in march

              so potentially takes to 112

3 group games equals it to 115

if that's the case then if england don't get out the group i'd suspect he'll play in a friendly to go to 116.

              it's all down to fitness.

He's done it for us for years, especially in Rafa's last season he was a wreck physically but was doing it just to get on the pitch. No need to insult him or imply his priority is England.

I wonder what Rodgers' views on this will be bearing in mind what he said last week, about Gerrard retiring after the World Cup to prolong his club career. He's not getting any younger, and his performance levels have been up and down this season more than last.

I'm a huge fan of his and my injections comment was highly tongue-in-cheek. But if he carries on playing internationals after the World Cup it's not going to be of any benfit to us and I wonder if Rodgers will start to phase him out sooner, as harsh as that sounds. Managers these days have little chance to show unwavering loyalty to players who aren't performing week in week out consistently

They virtually wheeled Beckham out in a chair to make his final few appearances didn't they

At this point in his career do you not think he has earnt the right to do whatever he wants when it comes to what he does with his playing time?

Beckham will don his Dr Evil outfit and sabotage the floodlights or something. Failing that, he'll come out of retirement for a cameo

126 caps isn't *that* far off either when you think about it. Irony is that he's most likely to get his chance with Hodgson as manager

No doubting what he has given to the club since he came into the team. He's a legend and will go down as one. My all time favourite player for Liverpool. He's earnt that right I agree to do as he pleases. However, a manager is going to think differently surely.

I think there's the argument about who pays his wages but it's not like he's jumping off the treatment table to declare himself fit for England so the argument bears less weight
