I can't help thinking this is the 'Season of Stevie'. Its all about ensuring he gets to play the important games (or all games) to make up for last season's near miss and to give our legend his last hurrah. How we managed to convince him not to play against Madrid in the second leg baffles the hell out of me.

I have little qualms with going through a bad season where we fail to qualify for CL, as long as Stevie feels like he's leaving on a high. I owe him that. We owe him that.

I wish we didn't have to though.

Does anyone else think a return to the Rafa era 4-2-3-1 could get the best out of Gerrard again? It gives us a better defensive base (two of Can, Lucas, Henderson and Allen), allows Gerrard to express himself a bit more and may even improve Balotelli.

Once Sturridge is back and with Coutinho/Sterling in support, I think Gerrard could be a key player.

I disagree, he's been paid very well to do what he does. We should always think about the club first and nothing else, that's how Ferguson was successfull.

If true of course, there's no escaping that Rodgers renting a mansion off Gerrard was a bad idea. Just shouldn't have been allowed to happen.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Really naive if true. But that kind of sums up Rodgers recently IMO.

Hes been playing that formation at times this season and if anything its hampered / stunted the player who has been asked to drop in alongside him
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Henderson usually right? I could see it worth a shot if Gerrard was behind the striker. I think Rafa once said that he could see Gerrard play as a striker in his twilight years, I'd rather see that then seeing practically play as an auxiliary centre half.

As much as it pains me to say it, we're not Ferguson's Man Utd. Only a bigger legend than Gerrard could have asked him to move aside gracefully. Currently, we don't have anyone bigger than Gerrard. That's not his fault of course but its just how it is.

The only legend that can tell Gerrard that its not working out mate, is, well, Gerrard.

By all accounts he's very honest about his own performances. I've seen him saying in post match interviews that he's playing poorly. He knows it. I don't even think he'd complain if he was dropped/rested to be honest. I think it's Rodgers that insists on playing him there, not Gerrard.

I mean Gerrard as the CAM/CF, not one of the CDMs. In the few times this season he's been more advanced he's looked good and even managed to make Balotelli look ok.

Or the manager if he wants to stay in a job beyond this season.

"Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers could play midfielder Steven Gerrard, 34, in a more advanced role against Ludogorets Razgrad to help combat his team's scoring problems" according to the Independent today.

If this happens his performance will show us if he still has what it takes to play a role further forward or not

Think he showed v WBA that he can still play the advanced role really well. Balo had a decent cameo that game too when Gerrard moved forward. Alas, it was decided to put him back to holding after that!

hes a matchwinner so it makes sense but for me he has to play off rickie lambert with sterling one side and coutinho the other
