'Past his best' is still significantly better than the rest of the players we have on our books. If he has one of his less effective games (and all players have them) he is still as good as anyone else we currently have in the squad.Originally posted by ChesterDave View PostIs he the only player in the world who can score them?
Obviously not. So to leave him on the pitch when he is past his best is a little foolhardy

Gerrard has said this himself, the expectations on him are far higher than on other players in the team. Other players can hide when Gerrard is playing - what will they do when he has left? Its going to be interesting/terrifying finding out.
Modifying post.

I disagree. His less effective games involve giving the ball away repeatedly and inviting pressure on every other player that need not be on them.Originally posted by mick the click View Post'Past his best' is still significantly better than the rest of the players we have on our books. Based on this season? Really? He's #14 in the lastest player of the season table, which is obviously not science, but our entire midfield is ahead of him with the exception of Markovic. And so is Lambert.Originally posted by mick the click View Post'Past his best' is still significantly better than the rest of the players we have on our books. We are an ordinary side - I don't believe he gives the ball away more than anyone else.

Gerrards own words, he's leaving cos the manager told him he'd have to manage his games. So what are we to do, carry on playing him in every game cos that's what he wants. That's why he retired from England. And he probably wants it to be in centre mid despite it never being his best position, even in his prime and certainly not now.

As I've said before, I'd just play him in the attacking role either 1 full game in 3 or regularly from the bench. He's been poor because the deep central role doesn't suit him, he's still a goal threat when given the opportunities, given we are struggling to score goals, playing him in a more advanced role (when he plays) seems a no-brainer.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
