To be fair he does not warrant first choice selection in the holding midfielder role in the team, so I think its best for everyone that he leaves, as it detrimental keep playing him there and all it will do is turn some fans against him, and we don't want to remember him as the player who would not let go.
It does beg the question as what we should do with the holding midfielder role, as I don't think Lucas is solid enough, and makes sloppy mistakes. Perhaps a problem for the next transfer window, as the keeper one loops over the entire defence. In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

Re: holding role. Agree, but he shouldn't be playing there anyway; it's never suited him. Should be an impact player in the middle/top of the midfield. Obviously this may not what have been what he ultimately desired, but we could certainly have obtained it if we were quicker with the bloody offer.

Well he can't be more clear then he is being, there's no conspiracy and he doesn't blame the club so why should anybody else. We offered him a deal and he doesn't want it cos he wants to play every game. If he'd signed a deal in the summer and then found out he wasn't going to play much he'd be pissed off.Originally posted by DeanoUK View PostNot really G, I concur with Tee.
To be honest his performances thus far didn't warrant a new deal so I'm not arsed he's leaving cos he wants to play more and that simply isn't justified. If he plays out of his skin for the next 5 months it might be but then you'd have to ask yourself why he didn't play like that before he decided to leave.Last edited by G; 06-01-15, 10:25 PM.

But yes please
G: agree, but we could've got him to sign anyway, he may have played a part for us even on the understanding it wouldn't be every game. I suppose we'll never know now, but they definitely should've looked at it sooner.

Totally agree. The well being of the Club comes first every time.Originally posted by G View PostWhether it's the holding role or further up he wants to play every minute of every game. Not a chance he should be doing that so leaving is the only option.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

The point of when he was offered the contract is neither here nor there for me because he still got offered it, he could still sign it. It just so happens by the time he did get offered it he had more information to hand about his playing time so he's taken the opportunity not to sign. I'd say he's pretty relieved he was in that position even though it kills him to leave. If he'd signed in the summer he'd be mightily pissed off that he's having his games managed yet he wouldn't be able to leave. I wouldn't want him to be unhappy here, he deserves more than that. He wants to play every game so he's going somewhere he can. It suits him and it suits us.Originally posted by DeanoUK View PostYou're a fecking pedant [emoji14] But yes please [emoji14]

There's still an awful lot he can contribute in more limited ways this second half of the season, and yes, we're going to have to put up with observations about how vital he is when he scores goals similar to last night, but there's no point in twisting his current playing-level into something than it isn't. The idea of Gerrard taking a more 'impactful' role has long been supported on this site, once it became clear to all how much his level had changed from the all round, explosive player we've enjoyed over the years.
Clearly Gerrard, despite his soundbites in interviews this week, thinks he can contribute more than the management believe, despite mounting evidence on display during his weekly runouts in the first XI.
That's an impasse we can do without."I will make the boys feel your support"
