Really wonder why so many are so eager to have a pop at him these days just because he's gone from one of the worlds best midfielders to being a good squad player for us...
Because he's not being used as a squad player.

We only wrestled back control of the midfield yesterday once Gerrard was off and Can moved to midfield.

We're not guaranteed to get a penalty, if we didn't it would have been just another game in which Gerrard was probably our worst player.

Seriously, who was worse? Not Mingolet, not the 3 lads at the back, not Ibe or Moreno, not Markovic and not Sturridge.
Hendo struggled but he has all season when paired with Gerrard and Coutinho was back to his frustrating best when his decision making and final pass were not quite good enough.

It's about judging players in the present, not based on what they have achieved (good or bad) in the past.
Spurs played through us time and time again.

Now everyone is back fit and available Gerrard doesn't deserve to play in this team in this system at this point of the season, we have better more disciplined defensive midfielders, we have better wide players and we have better players off the front.

Whoever posted about Gerard's interviews in the lead up to the Derby was spot on, all about him, his last derby etc....
It's very easy to say no thanks to the interview requests, I don't know if I'm playing yet and don't want anything to disrupt our build up, focusing on the team getting 3 points etc....

It's times like that derby build up when opposition fans call him Stevie Me
Nice post, except not everyone is now fit and available. Lucas is out. Hence Gerrard playing where he did. Allen or Gerrard? Anyone saying Allen should **** right off.

I don't mind people not wanting gerrard to play, its the ****ing snide crass comments about him I find distasteful. The man deserves respect.

Instead of getting angry, you should be taking in and appreciating getting the opportunity to see Gerrard in the great shirt these last few times. He did enough last night. He got passed around for their goal. Where was sakho? People are choosing to highlight all the bad things rather than the good passes, the good tackles etc I find this strange.

it is a real shame he is leaving us for a galaxy far far away

removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

I'm against Gerrard playing in league games and was disappointed Allen didn't start ahead of him (not that I'm happy with Allen this season either). But unlike most I thought he had a decent game yesterday.

Spurs tried to target him like most teams have done (successfully) this season. The only difference was Gerrard saw it coming and once their moves broke down we had Markovic/Ibe/Sturridge making them pay at the other end.

If Gerrard can play like that again I don't mind him starting ahead of Allen. Shame he got hamstrung at the end.

It's not a case of Allen or Gerrard (although if it were i'd opt for allen) - Lovren in and Can to DM leaves us far stronger than no screen in front of our defence.
Would be great if Mostar could do a couple of Gerrard highlight videos so we could judge objectively.
As for "you should be taking in and appreciating getting the opportunity to see Gerrard in the great shirt these last few times".
No thanks - i just want our team picked on merit.

really don`t get the gerrard plaudits for last night I thought he was totally dominated by the spurs midfield and was happy when he went off and all the sentiment stuff should go out the window as he simply does not get into our first 11 nowadays
Oh I say his vision there was lovely

Love how he just picks a side for his pens, doesnt give a **** about the keeper and is like "save this" and they cant

                      Steven Gerrard

I agree, there is no doubt our form has improved since BR started 'resting' Gerrard and I was also happy when he went off. There was wayyyy more energy from midfield after he got injured. Not Gerrard bashing, just my observations. No player can play at the top forever.
And isn't it great btw, rodgers has prepared well for the departure of one of the greatest players ever to grace the club, credit to him.

The thing with Stevie is we got to play to his strengths and accommodate him; playing him in three consecutive, close-together and physically demanding games and in a midfield two isn't doing that.
I wear my heart on my profile name.

Seriously? He's been on the bench numerous times during the past two months... He is being used in the squad rotation now, and likely wouldn't have started if Lucas were fit.

I seriously don't understand all this negativity concerning Gerrard, he is still doing a good job here and were a part of team that together got a monumentally important win last night. The focus is completely miscued IMO.

The worst thing we could do is to set up to play to the strengths of a fading player.

I watched him for their first and he was just going through the motions. He had a couple of chances to stop them but just ball watched in the hope someone else would do it or that spurs messed up
