I still think he offers something if used correctly, which IMO we haven't been doing. I think that Rodgers is adapting the team to fit him in at times which doesn't help anyone. I'll be sad to see him go as he is one of our best ever players, but the way we have been using him recently I think it is probably for the best for everyone. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think there is something in that, maybe not stroppy part, but I think he is not doing anything to make it easier on Brendan. Next season might be easier for Brendan in a way, difficult for him to hae player of Gerrards statue in his twilight.Originally posted by Norbs View PostI'm not sure that Stevie G makes Brendan's decisions that easy to make, I'd imagine that what Stevie wants is to play every minute and is stroppy if he doesn't get his way* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Yes for parts the game passed him by. But what stopped any of the other players stepping up and doing anything? He made a cracking run into the area, but sterling didn't bother looking up instead choosing to shoot weakly at the keeper. Gerrard was making moves dragging players around without getting the ball. Gerrard wasn't bad yesterday, he just didn't see a lot of the ball. Mainly because the back 3 and Allen had it for the most part. To you to me and repeat.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

Yeah I don't think he was rubbish yesterday, he was just fairly anonymous.
He didn't get enough of the ball, but what he did do I thought he did well. Certainly wasn't the worst player out there
Playing him as a RW in a front 3 was, in hindsight, a bit stupid. Also thought he should've replaced Lucas instead of AllenI saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

Spot on, it gets more evident as the game drags on and he tires.Originally posted by Dessy View PostLegs, it's all about legs!
And at some point that extra yard or two up top means jack......for me SG has passed this point.
We play quick football passing into space but with Stevie a yard either side of him and the moves already dead because he's seems so heavy in comparison to the rest moving forward.
He has a role to play, certainly, but he was overused yesterday.Vive la France

Leading up to the game the interviews with Gerrard alone would make dropping him a hell of a decision he was saying the Derby at Goodison is his favourite game of the year. How much he's looking forward to it and the media made it more about him than the the game itself.Originally posted by Norbs View PostI'm not sure that Stevie G makes Brendan's decisions that easy to make, I'd imagine that what Stevie wants is to play every minute and is stroppy if he doesn't get his wayVive la France

That's the problem. He's not necessarily bad when he is involved in the play, it's the rest of the time when he's a passenger to the quick, dynamic football Coutinho and Sterling want to play.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostYes for parts the game passed him by. Precisely. Brendan's biggest headache is how his management of Gerrard is percieved by the media. Trouble is that Brendan is quite the media whore and so he heaps more pressure on himself while trying to look good. If he chose the team on merit and ignored all outside influences then I'm pretty certain Gerrard would've missed out. Not because he stinks the place out or is our worst player, but purely because he isn't fitting the system nowOriginally posted by Robbie-9-Fowler View PostLeading up to the game the interviews with Gerrard alone would make dropping him a hell of a decision he was saying the Derby at Goodison is his favourite game of the year. Feel really awful saying this but I'm slightly relieved Stevie won't be playing for the next few games. Hate to see him injured as we have few too many out at moment but seems Rodgers would have kept playing him in that DM role which he has consistently struggled at. Not only is against everything in his game, it really negates Henderson's natural game too.
Playing him 3 games in a week was pretty ridiculous. Anyways hope he recovers but i think Can in midfield with Henderson.. I dare i say it Allen (shudders) will give us so much more energy & movement in the CM. Hendo does seem a bit inhibited on times playing beside Stevie too.
