Awful, he's just not cut out for that role. Never has been. It's especially apparent now as his legs have gone. He's drawn to the ball far too often and then can't recover. He doesn't spot the danger or track his runners.Originally posted by captainfog View Post

I think he held more last seasonBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I still think he would be far more effective in a more advanced position. His legs cannot cope with the demands for a more DM so I would leave Can and Allen as teh holding players, push Stevie forward and play with a front 3."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Definitely, last season he accepted that Suarez carried us in games and Gerrard seemed happy to play his role within the team, this season he seems to have reverted to being poor positionally again, almost as if he's trying to play like he did 4 or 5 years ago which in turn affects the balance of the side.Originally posted by Lecter View PostHes being drawn to the ball far more this season than last

I actually feel sorry for him in that clip, his legs have gone, players are just coasting around him like he's not there.
Take it with a massive pinch of salt but one of those twitter accounts who don't claim to be ITK but get info and pass it on in 'good faith' said as things stand he isn't signing a new deal. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

It's just all wrong from back to front. Stevie is just one of several problems.

Agree, but I feel he is one problem we can do something about and he is having a knockon effect on the defence IMO, him not being there leads Dejan "whereabouts" Lovren going astray leaving his position, Skrtel then moves so he can cover Lovren leaving.Originally posted by danperkins View Post

Toure was good against Madrid but he also had Lucas in front of him and didn't need to step out of the defence.* The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Can anyone justify his continued inclusion? What does he offer Liverpool on the pitch in late 2014 and before anyone answers try and leave the previous 14 or so years out of this.
Personally, I see an ageing footballer, playing out of position, with no outstanding assets to warrant his inclusion any more.
It is desperately sad that his career is waning quicker than he'd and we'd have liked but he looks shot to me.
As others have said, give him an attacking impact role. Last 20 or so minutes as an attacking midfielder and see what he contributes then.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

I honestly think that in a more attacking position he still has plenty to offer us this season. The deeper quarterback role is not possible with his legs now and he is no DM, never really has been. But, push him further forward he still has an eye for a pass and can pull off the sublime. You don't just lose it overnight and I hope BR realises he can still play an important role for the team if used correctly."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." his long passes from the back are now obsolete.
they may get to the desired player occasionally, but we no longer have the players available to make the most of them, suarez gone, studgey is broken biscuits, sterling got no mojo.
if he isnt the functioning QB then why of why cant brendan see the ****ing obvious.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Remember the stick Rafa got when he did that?Originally posted by Assassin View PostI would stick him wide right in the a Beckham type role. Give him the ball and let him whip the wicked pacey bending crosses in......

Was Gerrard's best ever season though right?
