The point about the other midfielders is the biggest worry, none of them are currently playing any better

It's a massive concern that no one is stepping up.
I wonder if there is a massive hangover from last years failure. Gerrard certainly carried over that haunted look throughout the short world cup experience. I think the home fans at the games have also been quiet, like they still can't believe it went wrong. I know I'm not still over it so I guess I'm not the only one. in reality he would have to either accept a lesser role or go to a lesser league - like the states....
if he goes to another club in the top leagues, then he would need to accept a lesser role as well - like Lampard had to at Man City..... gerrard could probably go to a number of top clubs but wouldnt be a starter every week at any of them. At LFC he would still be club captain and legend.....even if he was on the bench 3 weeks out of every 5....
it will be interesting to see. What is a little bit disappointing is that this has come out in October. If he doesnt sign a contract this side of xmas, then it could be like a dutch oven into the new year posing question marks in the build up to every ****in game we play - most likely when we are trying to catch up and break into the top 4.....Comment

Rafa would play him every game at Napoli as he thinks Gerrard is the new Pirlo (as opposed to 'Purslow')... There has been no succession plan to replace him and as such we need to see FSG put some big money on the table to address it with someone like Reus. Worse case scenario we become like Utd who just never properly replaced KeaneComment

No way is Gerrard right now a more effective player than many of the better midfielders in the game today.
The big question for us is not whether or not the current Gerrard can be replaced, but rather are we capable of attracting the calibre of player we would need to bring in.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
