He played there as backup for Britton but wasn't always convincing. I think he could do he job but we would have to 'play him in' to the role. Gerrard is probably a better option there at the minute.Originally posted by Liverpool View PostDid Allen play quite deep for Swansea? Or was that always Britton?
Allen, Henderson, Lallana as an engine room is very appealing though.

Does anyone reckon this might be our answer to counter the 'mark Gerrard out of the game' tactic? Play him deep first half then sub Coutinho off, put Gerrard up front and Allen/Hendo deep sitting?
Gerrard was virtually invisible to opposing defenders/midfielders when he went up front. WBA didn't know what to do and we should have score 1 or 2 more goals when that happened. One tit for another.

Could be good to intermittently switch the midfield positions throughout games.....if we have players that are flexible then it is definately a sound tacticOriginally posted by BigChief View PostDoes anyone reckon this might be our answer to counter the 'mark Gerrard out of the game' tactic? Britton always played the holding roleOriginally posted by Gibbo View PostI thought Allen played deep for Swansea and then Britton took his place after he left? Although in fairness I don't think there is a problem with Gerrard.
I must say the thought of playing Allen as a holding player fills me with dread
Hes not good enough or physical enough to do that role imoBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

You dont have to do substitutions to do itOriginally posted by BigChief View PostDoes anyone reckon this might be our answer to counter the 'mark Gerrard out of the game' tactic? Play him deep first half then sub Coutinho off, put Gerrard up front and Allen/Hendo deep sitting?

Against Everton they had Naismith dropping off and picking up Gerrard
After the first couple of times he did this Gerrard pushed further up the pitch and Henderson dropped into the split between the centrehavles.
Naismith then had a decision to make does he go with Gerrard leaving Lukaku isolated or dropp off and pick up Henderson and thereby freeing Gerrard
They didnt do this Saturday because West Brom didnt put anyone on GerrardBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Stevie contemplating leaving if he's not offered a new contract according to this.
Can't see it happening.
Premier League - Steven Gerrard casts doubt on Liverpool future.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is keen to continue his career beyond this season but admits he may be forced to move away from Anfield if the club fails to offer him a new deal.
Premier League - Steven Gerrard casts doubt on Liverpool future
Gerrard, who joined the Liverpool Academy at the age of nine and is approaching 700 appearances in all competitions, is out of contract at his boyhood club at the end of the current campaign.
While the 34-year-old remains a pivotal player having played in all nine Premier League matches for Liverpool this season, he has cast doubt on whether he will remain with the club beyond next summer.
"I can only worry about this season because I'm only contracted until May," Gerrard said in an interview with the Daily Mail.
"As it stands at the moment, I'm here until the end of the season and want to make the most of it. I certainly won't be retiring this summer. I will play beyond this season.
"We will have to wait and see if that's at Liverpool or somewhere else. That's Liverpool's decision. If they don't come then I will see what's out there."
Gerrard also came to the defence of controversial striker Mario Balotelli, who has made an indifferent start to life at Liverpool with just two goals in 12 appearances and none in seven Premier League matches following his summer move from AC Milan.

Among those to have questioned the Italian's credentials is Gerrard's old friend and team-mate Jamie Carragher, who labelled Balotelli as a "panic" buy following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona over the summer.
Yet Gerrard said: "You have to respect Jamie's opinion. He knows football but it's too early to get on Mario's back.
"He just needs time to score the goals he needs to prove to people he is worthy of staying here. I am not going to judge him after 10 games. To come in after Suarez was always going to be a big ask and he's not feeling sorry for himself. He is working hard, doing extra shooting sessions.
"I've actually been impressed (with) the way he goes about his work. You hear all kinds of stories and rumours before you meet him, but he does all the work. I like the guy."Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

He should be offered a contract for as long as he wants to carry on playing. Maybe not top dollar, but a contract nonetheless.
However, I think he would do great if he went over to Italy or America now. So a change might do him good.

for me, he shouldnt really be talking about it in the press. If Stevie wanted a new deal, then he should have just spoken to the club and sorted it out.....what is worrying is the fact that he is talking about it in the press - which would possibly suggest that the club have told him "wait and see"
I could have sworn that he signed a 3 year deal about a year ago.....and it included ****e like him being an ambassador when he packed up playing.....
I hope he doesn't play anywhere else to be honest. One club man who never wore another clubs jersey would be awesome......
