I think we are having to adjust too many things to accomodate Gerrard. At the moment the only thing he is offering that we can't get from other players is set pieces.

I don't think so, I think we've adjusted our system because we don't have the strikers available. Also, don't see many others offering much more at the moment. Have to agree with Lecter, the intensity of our pressing has gone and the work rate from our forwards is concerning. Sort that out and we'll be 75% there.
Brandt - Keita - Van Dijk - Sessegnon

IMO Gerrard isn't playing well but he's down the list in terms of issues we need to fix - the 3 of Lovren, Skrtel and Mignolet isn't working at all and in attack we just look ponderous and lacking ideas at the moment.

We need to get back to being able to field a settled side and a formation that suits the players we've got.

Henderson having to look out for Gerrard will have a big impact on our pressing game.

When Allen is back, time to shove Gerrard forward and rotate him more often?

i think we might see emre can get some time in the holding/DM role and this will allow gerrard to play a more controlled advanced midfield role.
gerrard can help keep the ball moving but allow the other lads to do the bulk of the running. the midfield should be less of a void.

                  something like;

                  mig

                  manq - skrtel - lovren - moreno

                  can

                  hendo - gerrard - lallana

                  sterling

                  sturridge

Can't see it. Gerrard will stick to where he has been playing in the last year or so. It was working last season, so can't see any reason why it won't work once we're settled a bit.
                      Are we winning?

as and when we have a viable alternative to gerrard as the dm then maybe its not too far fetched.

I don't think Can's this all conquering defensive midfielder some people want him to be. Yet. He's not going to waltz into the side and destroy everything in front of him, he needs time. Why do we always think the grass is always greener? Mignolet is ****, get Valdes. Gerrard is ****, bring in Can. Left-back is out problem, get Ziege. We need a winger, get Patridge in.

i know can isnt the automatic replacement as yet, but if he gets some time in the position in cup games, maybe a few subs, he may be them mobile DM, tough tackler, able to carry the ball with pace, he can pass well, etc.

Wasn't aimed at you, Dave ... Just some musings that kinda fell out in this thread.

I agree, with time let's hope he fulfills his potential. The Carling Cup would have been perfect for him if it wasn't for this injury.
