His role is similar to Pirlo, get the ball off the back four and start the offensive play. How often do we see Pirlo getting stuck in and playing as a DM? Never.

The issue, which both BR and Stevie have to address is the fact that when he is closed down and pressed he is struggling to make an impact on the game.

How do we solve this problem? Play 10 yards further forward, thats how. And get the other CMs closer around him to allow him to make space to play.

He has still got it and I am confident we will see the best of him again. FFS this time last year there was talk of him playing until he is 40, and overnight he seems to have been written off and condemned.

Call it blind love, loyalty or dare I say common sense, but for me Stevie G will be back to silence all the doubters. Yet again.

Apologies for not mentioning it, just read a few other posts and decided to throw in my tuppence worth!

Some want him out of the side for a bit and others given a chance, and others want him in for every game. I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. He is a year older than Lampard, so he seems like a good comparison.

Lampard was phased out over about 2 years, so in that respect Gerrard is going stronger than him. But I think it'll start happening soon. As much as I want him to keep up being Steven Gerrard, signs are showing that he can't always do it.

He is still one of our best players, but every player has his day. 2 years and I think it'll be his

Gerard was always a better athlete than lampard & like it or not, the Chavs have being playing at a consistently higher standard than us over the last few seasons.

Not really sure what my point is over & above that tho!
          3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Well yeah, better athlete. But they are two players who have had a fairly similar career path. Big goalscoring midfielders, carrying the weight of the team, always the first name on the team sheet, talismanic. That sort of thing.

But he played 29 league games, in 2012/13 and then 26 in 2013/14 so he was phased away slowly. Ripping him out of the team would have been a bit much, same with Gerrard.

For most of his career he's been a.master at hitting the first man

Even in his pomp it used to frustrate the **** out of me that he was our corner taker. Last season he took the best set pieces of his career.

                        Cheers mate!

All jokes aside I was being serious, give him some time off and let spend it with his young family. He needs some positivity back in his life and a few ****s from the missus might just help.

With Can and Allen out the only real option is Lucas. It remains to be seen if a run of games would get him closer to what is needed, but for the moment Gerrard has the position as he is our best option. We should definitely be looking at alternatives though.

Obviously I'm not suggesting for a second that Rossiter is better than Gerrard and obviously Boro aren't at our standard, but you can see how much better we've played tonight when we have more energy in that DM position and we've not sprayed Hollywood balls all night.

I really think that we'll play the best with Hendo-Allen-Can-Sterling (Sterling being CAM if we play 4 in midfield). Providing Rodgers is willing to drop/rotate Stevie that is.

                                Same as last year...

Until he gets going he'll have good key moments but average general play.

I think once he gets going he'll be back up there.
