Nice to see some confidence going into the season
Gerrard: We are title contenders
In an open and honest interview with LFCTV's Claire Rourke, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard opens up about last season's achievements in the Premier League and his ambitions for 2014-15. Watch a free video taster now.
Coming to you on Monday on LFCTV and LFCTV GO, Liverpool's inspirational No.8 also talks in depth about his decision to retire from international football and how Brendan Rodgers has him believing of title glory.
He also gives his assessment of the new players to have arrived at the club this summer.
In the revealing interview, reflecting on last season, Gerrard said: "When you play at this level the margins are so tight, so when you fall short of something having been within touching distance the emotions are still going to be raw and will take time to get over.
"The only way to do that is to go and achieve something this season. But the longer I've reflected upon it and analysed the season, you can look back and be proud of your teammates.
"I think the fans will agree with me that the performance levels last season were incredible. Some of our performances were top-drawer.
"I believe we are in a much better place now than we were this time last year. The reason being because we've got the taste, the know-how and the experience of being in a title race. If we can use the hurt of falling short last season in our favour then hopefully we can go one better.
"I think this is the first time in a long time that I can be confident of telling people that we are the real deal and are real title contenders before a ball has been kicked."

Hahah - I'm not a WUM at all but I have to admit the BS about SG makes me sick.Originally posted by Pablo1981 View Post
You're a bad WUM
I think Gerrard at this very moment is THE most overrated British footballer. He is our Talisman and a legend but we are miles better without him.
All this talk about the 50 goals conceded last season. You need only to look at Gerrard to find part of the explanation. With a better HM we would have been less exposed.
I only hope that Rodgers is man enough to step up and do what is necessary. He is worn out and that is only logical and not a dig at a great footballer.
Please dont get upset - its just my opinion. We were miles better when he was finally moved back in a holding position - and he did OK - I said he was hurting us then in that position and I saying he is hurting us now in his holding position. We need a present day worldclass footballer in his position to get in top 4. Even Lucas is better these days.
Please don't go ape****e. I'm not trying to piss anybody off...!
We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold.

Maybe not THE most overrated english player, but I'm afraid you have a point though. Gerrard is an important member of the squad but our XI might be reaching the point he is no longer needed week in week out.Originally posted by CAD View PostHahah - I'm not a WUM at all but I have to admit the BS about SG makes me sick.

Yes, but he isn't as hyped - just inflated? I agree that he was ****e last season but I think loads took the time to tell him that as well - including Moyes...?Originally posted by Gray View PostHardly, have you seen Wellbeck
