Can't blame him really. I'd want out as well if I was coming to the end of my career and seeing the club yet again regress while selling our best player and replacing him with ****.

His decline this season has been steep. Until the slip he was great last season, for the most part. Remember this? What a ****in night that was, what a buzz, what a pass

EXCLUSIVE: Steven Gerrard to LEAVE Liverpool as captain heads abroad
STEVEN GERRARD is set to announce that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
The Anfield captain has taken the heart rending decision to go abroad when his contract expires in the summer and move on from the boyhood club he has served with such distinction.
Gerrard, who scored two penalties in today’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City, is now poised to go public on his plans to avoid speculation over his future becoming a distraction during the rest of the season for manager Brendan Rodgers.
He has not decided at which club he will continue glittering career, but a move to the MLS is likely to appeal. Several clubs are interested in signing him, including LA Galaxy.
Clubs from the Middle East will also pitch to Gerrard and the midfielder has been free to speak to foreign sides from the moment 2015 started.
Gerrard’s decision, set to be made in the next 24 hours, will come as a bombshell to many Liverpool supporters who anticipated he would extend his playing career with the club by at least another year.
Liverpool offered Gerrard a new deal in November, but the former England skipper has decided the time is right to move on at the end of the campaign and experience something different.
Gerrard joined Liverpool as an eight-year-old and has made 695 appearances during a remarkable career at the club, scoring 180 goals, and lifted 11 trophies.
His greatest moment came when he scored in the Champions League final in 2005 and inspired Liverpool to come from 3-0 down at half-time against AC Milan and win the trophy on penalties.
But his hopes of winning the Premier League are likely to remain unfulfilled after Liverpool came up agonisingly short last season and lost out to Manchester City.
He will remain totally committed to Rodgers in the final five months of the season and will target winning more silverware and propelling Liverpool into the top four.
Gerrard returned to the starting line up for yesterday’s stalemate over Leicester City at Anfield after being rested for Monday’s win over Swansea.
The prospect of being a substitute in more matches next season as Rodgers manages his fitness has helped shape his thinking, along with a desire to sample a new culture with his young family after 16-years shouldering the burden for Liverpool.
He will not play for another club in England out of respect for Liverpool.
The leaving of Liverpool will come with Gerrard having resisted numerous lucrative offers over the years to move on.
He stepped back from the brink in 2004 and 2005 following interest from Chelsea and has also previously rejected overtures from the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
There will inevitably be focus on whether Liverpool should have presented Gerrard with a new deal earlier in the season rather than allowing the days to tick down towards him being able to speak about a free transfer.
Yet the final months of his Anfield career should be a celebration of what he has achieved in the knowledge that many supporters will not want him to leave.Last edited by Shaggy; 01-01-15, 11:01 PM.Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Fate has been so so cruel to him, he really has not deserved what has happened since that fateful slip at Anfield. I dreamed he would win the PL title once with us and it is never going to happen.
A sad day when he leaves, the greates English and Liverpool player of all time.

Kinda feels like he's carried us for over a decade yet we've ****ed him off as soon as his powers waned, I know it's not like that and it reads like his decision but it feels a bit like it with all the people on his back. Though I suppose thats the cruel world of football if it was the case anyway.

But you know what, I fully support him on this. He has earned the right to have a couple of easier years and experience something new in this short pro footballer career. A proper LEGEND

It's a sign of how much he's declined that I'm not arsed he's going. It's better for everyone now since the manager lacks the balls to do things right. Club legend who will always be revered but his reputation is being damaged everytime he turns up looking a shadow of his former self.
Maybe that's why Rodgers is renting his house off him, decision made some time ago so Gerrard needed a tenant for his house.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
