Absolutely gutted. By far the greatest player ever to pull on a red shirt. I am totally honoured to have seen him in a red shirt for 16 years.

For me his greatest game for us was the 2006 FA cup final. What a goal that was. Who else could forget his goal in the 2001 UEFA cup final? Although I had been expecting it I feel like crying. It's an end of an era and the way it has ended is tragic.

It's weird but I guess the truth is he isn't a regular in our team and because of the type of person he is I don't think he'll be happy with a bit part role. My view has been that we should have played him less regularly or as a sub in a more attacking role, the role he currently plays doesn't suit him, so going somewhere else such as America is probably for the best. I had thought he might retire when he left us, it will be weird seeing him in another shirt

People should remember him as he was, not for the role he plays at the moment. Whatever happens he is an LFC legend and one of the greatest players ever to play for us and deserves our respect.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I wouldn't begrudge him a loan move next season to Man City and pick up a Premier League medal there.

For a player like him, it should not end like this. That slip last season, after his post Man City comments of not letting it 'slip' is such a ****ty way for it to end.

He can still do a job for us from the bench, but maybe he hasn't gotten over last season.

i guessed a while back he might stroll off into the american sunshine when he leaves us.

                    maybe we can clone him
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

He hasn't been the same since the slip, it killed him. He was ****e in the summer and it's carried on. Terrible end to his time here.

Sad day for Lfc & English football with the Gerrard news, I think it's the right decision all things considered.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

'only' 34, I feel he could have gone on for a couple more years in the right role/position. With a young team I think we need someone like him around.

Its all been said, but it's going to be such a weight lifted from the team.
No-one is trying to diminish his status over the years, and we'll probably be hearing the usual lamentations from pundits when things aren't going right next season, but it's 100% the right thing to happen.

All I'm interested in is in how the rest of the season is to be handled. It's not an excuse for him to playing every game.

We are haemorrhaging leaders. Reina, Agger, Carragher, Suarez and now Gerrard. We need some real men to step up.
