Barnes was pretty much the equal of Suarez at his absolute peak skill wise I reckon.

Nah. I love Barnes my fave player of all time. But he wasn't as good as Suarez.

LFC Legend - Kenny with Gerrard a very close second

Most talented footballer - Suarez, with Barnes a very close second also

The best player thing is totally subjective. You can't be wrong or right, it's just a personal preference.

For me he was the best player in my generation watching Liverpool. I caught the back end of us actually being good. So Barnes in decline, Rush mostly in decline etc. Gerrard out-did all of those in my time watching Liverpool and it's a real shame he never got to play in a team with the likes of Barnes, Kenny and Rush.

He'll be missed for that side of things massively. I read Suarez's book, and he was totally in his thrall as well, saying it was Gerrard who convinced him to stay. You hear so many players who hero worship him when they talk about him - the captain! That's what you want from a captain.

I'm not sad at all. I will be come May but not right now, hopefully it will stop the grief he's been getting on here recently.

That slip against Chelsea is probably the cruellest bit of bad luck I've seen in sport, what a killer. It was his one chance to claim the title and it was in our grasp, much worse than that French golfer in the open or Mansell stopping on the home straight.

He's going to be massive loss, look at all these players saying they think of Gerrard and Liverpool hand in hand we struggle to sign any decent as it is.

There is a lot of weight on him playing for Liverpool for a million and one reasons, so can understand a stress free, nice weather, looking good in a **** league, new experience etc etc, but at the end of the day it will be meaningless. He still has a lot to give being at us.

                          Loved Sakho's 'Mr. Gerrard'

Arguably our greatest player ever, forced to play in an era of lesser Liverpool sides, and, I've said it before, there was period of a couple of years where he was truly THE best player in the world.

i agree with all of that. I don't really get the Twitter hysterics of some. Footy's always been a cold business and that's how it goes. Callaghan,Hughes,Ray Kennedy,Terry Mac,Tommy Smith and countless others have all been ruthlessly binned as their ability faded. It's an insult to Gerrard to have him playing a bit part. This is fine by me but what an absolute crying,****ing shame the way last season ended. Gerrard will be replaced you mark my words. That's how Liverpool works. It's always been like that and it always will. The biggest benefactor from this could be Henderson. What an opportunity for him.
