i agree with all of that. I don't really get the Twitter hysterics of some. Footy's always been a cold business and that's how it goes. Callaghan,Hughes,Ray Kennedy,Terry Mac,Tommy Smith and countless others have all been ruthlessly binned as their ability faded. It's an insult to Gerrard to have him playing a bit part. This is fine by me but what an absolute crying,****ing shame the way last season ended. Gerrard will be replaced you mark my words. That's how Liverpool works. It's always been like that and it always will.
i have seen plenty of legends come and go.
the real crying shame is that as stevie steps aside we are left with no leaders on the pitch.
its great having all these little lads running around, great potential blah blah, but who are the players who will dig us out of a hole in those tough gamesremoving all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Him or Barnes for meOriginally posted by Shaggy View PostI still think there's a bit of a blur when it comes to the whole best player thing. The best footballer - as in the most talented and most skilful - I've seen play for LFC was Suarez. By a mile tbh. Gerrard would say the same. But obviously Stevie is a genuine LFC legend, and alongside Kenny is the greatest. The legend stuff requires longevity, but when it's boiled down to just football ability, Suarez is untouchable IMO.

Very well said, although Gerrard was pretty bloody decent last season to be fair to him.Originally posted by Daniel 7 View PostI won't miss the Steven Gerrard we've seen this season, he's there in body only - he looks the same but he doesn't have the devastating ability of years gone by. It's been a terminal goodbye period with him,its such a shame he's going out a pale shadow of what he was - I can't help but agree with captainfog on a fair few of his points mentioned - if the club had been run properly, and the manager wasn't so reliant on him to carry the gravity of his directions, then we would be seeing Gerrard as a guest appearance at the end of games, caressing the ball around and lifting the younger players.
It felt a bit like the baton had been passed on a season and a half ago to Luis Suarez - here was a man who could inspire and carry the weight in a manner similair to Steven at his peak. That he was allowed to go and no real replacement brought in, nobody to act as the world class foundation the team is built on, is a ****ing indictment. Gerrard had to drag his creaking bones back out to try to do it all over again and he wasn't able to.
This is the right thing. The Steven Gerrard we were all in awe of actually left a few years ago.
I think with Stevie its the motivation factor now with LFC, it a real case of here we go again with the mediocrity, its got to to tough for him losing Suarez after Torres, Alonso etc. and stepping back out of contention again.
With regards to the owners, serious questions should be asked, they needed to make a significant signing knowing this was coming on the back of losing Suarez and that big signing has just got further from there grasp with this news and our current league position.
