Greatest player to pull on the shirt, but it's time. We're not going to miss the Gerrard of today, but we're already missing Gerrard in his prime.
When this season is over it will be sad to see him go, it will well and truly be the end of an era. At his best his was unplayable, he had everything. I'm annoyed at Rodgers because his mismanagement of him this season has robbed us of enjoying his last months at the club. We should be cheering him off the bench and applauding game changing cameos. Instead he starts almost every game and not even in his best position and we are left shaking our heads cursing his inclusion. It shouldn't be like that, the guy is a true legend.
Mebbe Stevie said he wouldn't stay if he was only guaranteed a bit part, Brendog tried to work it & it's failed. (Quite possibly at the expense of our season, but that's another discussion than the immediate).

I find it hard to believe Rodgers can't see that Gerrard's constant inclusion has been harming the side, so it must just be a case of not having the stones to bench him and use him more sparingly. It's stupid because you could bring him on for the last 15 minutes behind the striker and he could have a real impact on games. We're losing so much from him. He can't start games there because he doesn't have the energy or legs to carry it off for longer than 20 minutes and he shouldn't be starting in central midfield because he's never been very good there, regardless of his age.
He'll go somewhere else and do a cracking job, and good luck to him. We'll stick someone else where he's been playing and blame them for our ****ty performances rather than our woeful one-eyed gameplan that most managers have cottoned on to and negated now. And so it will continue, ad infinitum.
This news being blurted out now rather than at the end of the season shows what a shambles we are at the moment.
His form has been noticeably dropping past couple of years. Last year Rodgers came up with a genius move and got him playing brilliantly once again. It wasn't the force of nature we all waffle on about, but it was befitting of a legend. This summer he was let down.
This club once again blew it in the transfer market and quite simply the wheels come off on this formation that served us so brilliantly. Since that diamond formation went up the swanny, quite simply Gerrard has looked out of place.
As we all know, he doesn't have the legs. Sadly, he doesn't have the tactical acumen either. He's no Pirlo or Alonso. He may have their passing range which suited us last year, but they've been playing a holding role for years. As their pace went (not that either ever had much) they used their in game intelligence to help them out. I don't think Gerrard has ever really had that defensive awareness. He's a forward thinking player.
So he's ill suited to a DM position now. But we can't play him further forwards either. People harp on about Lampard, but we don't play like City. Lampard slotted into a team that had a position he could play. We no longer have a position that suits Gerrard. Not with the way we want to play. And Rodgers has tried. But Gerrard just hasn't got the legs to drive in the box or constantly run & press all game like Lallana & Coutinho have been doing.
Now Rodgers could try & change the way we play again, but it doesn't make sense to try and build a team around a declining player. IMO there is no point having players that don't fit your system, and Gerrard doesn't fit ours. Maybe there's a place still for when teams drop in the last 15 mins and we need a break through. Stevie to the rescue again. But I don't think that works either.
Have to say, certain players play better when Gerrard doesn't. And it's not Stevie's fault. They're just weaklings who are in awe of him. Every second they pass the ball to him instead of taking responsibility themselves. It's ridiculous and it's been happening for years. It's held us back slightly in the past, but it's pathetic even more now as he can no longer drag us out the mire by himself.
Gerrard has been continually let down by the club during his time here. It was the clubs responsibility to build a top side around him and only on the very odd occasion did they manage it. Instead he's been surrounded by charlatans who aren't fit to wear the shirt and it must depress the **** out of him to have ****e come in over the summer as other clubs sign top players.
There's a good few reasons it's right to leave. All the best to a club legend.

Seems Steven Gerrard is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season. One of the finest players to have graced the PL. A top, top player.

Reckon Steven Gerrard has been our greatest ever. A whisker ahead of Kenny. But both are gods so we're blessed to have had either

Some relief that Steven Gerrard is/was seemingly in control of his decision. These club/club legend things can be messy.

When Kenny Dalglish retired as a Liverpool player plenty said no-one would come close to touching him as the club's greatest. Gerrard has.
