Hey.... wait a minute -
Oh you cheeky scamp! I fell for it too!Originally posted by CAD View PostI think Gerrard at this very moment is THE most overrated British footballer. He is our Talisman and a legend but we are miles better without him.
Bleh. We don't play the type of football that demands a typical holding midfielder. You're right, we would have conceded less goals with what is in effect, an additional defensive player; but we finished second last year by 2 points.Originally posted by CAD View PostAll this talk about the 50 goals conceded last season. You need only to look at Gerrard to find part of the explanation. With a better HM we would have been less exposed.
Originally posted by CAD View PostI only hope that Rodgers is man enough to step up and do what is necessary. He is worn out and that is only logical and not a dig at a great footballer.
So if he doesn't, as per last season and sticks with SG as the deepest lying midfielder it's because he isn't man enough to drop him? Rather than, and bear with me here because this is likely to be a bat**** mental suggestion; you're wrong?
You are rightOriginally posted by CAD View PostPlease dont get upset - its just my opinion. We were miles better when he was finally moved back in a holding position - and he did OK - I said he was hurting us then in that position and I saying he is hurting us now in his holding position.
We WERE miles better when he moved back. Congratulations!
And he was widely regarded by anyone with eyes as being one of the best midfielders in the league last season, in the position he was moved back to.
Aww shucks, I didn't spot this. You got me man, you got me. Hook line and sinkerOriginally posted by CAD View PostWe need a present day worldclass footballer in his position to get in top 4. Even Lucas is better these days.
To give you your dues, you have been peddling your ill informed moronic nonsense incredibly politelyOriginally posted by CAD View PostI have been criticizing (as nicely as possibly) for 4 years

Used to depend on. Doesn't now. Gah. Why am I bothering? So obviousOriginally posted by CAD View PostThere is no doubt he is a good player. We just need better now. He used to be world class 4 or 5 years ago. He hasn't been world class for a long time bar a few games. He lost too much pace which he really depended on.
Originally posted by CAD View PostThere is no way we can win the league with Gerrard in the starting XI this year.
Honestly man, put me out of my misery. It's been long enough, admit it and bask in the glory that people like you must surely be looking for? I'll be the first to say I've bitten on a myriad of occasions, I'm sure others will too
Are you erect?I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

That's semantics and I think you are better than that? DM then. It's hardly the point. The point is that the defensive part of the game isn't exactly the strongest aspect of his game, right? I think he is partly the reason we conceded and absurd amount of goals last season. The next question could be if he added enough forward to justify the lack of defensive skill... I think it could be argued that he got exposed a bit without Henderson covering a lot of ground. This is not only a Gerrard issue but a lack of quality in the squad - I agree with that - but he was never able to cover the gap - because he doesn't have the tools to do so. I think he looks spend and even though he did play a decent season I still think we have other players now who could do better. Also I's personally never happy with 'decent' when it comes to SG but decent is all we have gotten for a long time now, sadly....
Maybe I'm wrong... It looks like you are dead certain that you are 110% right so I can see that arguing with you over this point might be uphill. I'm ready to be educated. When you have finished showing for all you friends here maybe we could have constructive talks about this?

Of course BR might proceed with SG and that might be the right call as well. I think he might be in a better position to make that call than you or I. But should he decide to drop him it would be a delicate option to pursue, wouldnt it? I think Carraghers bitter outburst about his last year at Anfield about how he was humiliated as a sub would be something you would not want to even be an issue with one of the greatest players ever to wear the LFC Jersey. I think it is a defining moment for BR and absolutely crucial to get right. My point is that he might be forced to give SG a lot of space before he actually drops him from the XI. The disturbance in the squad would be profound if SG started to show up with a frown. Im sorry if you think this observation is bat****e[?] or otherwise mental but I urge you to at least consider it
You are right

HEY! Thanks Fierce!!! When I argued that he was hurting us playing further upfield a few years ago I was nearly crucified on this site. Great to see you come around!
And he was widely regarded by anyone with eyes as being one of the best midfielders in the league last season, in the position he was moved back to.
I think he was widely overrated but he did have some good matches. A lot of the problems and issues that would have been otherwise major was painted over by 102 great goals. I don't think his defensive inadequacies last season will ever be fully explored. I fully respect that you think differently. These days I think he is a bigger part of the problem than he is of the solution. Same on the national team for a long time IMO. He was ace against Croatia on Wembley in 2013, other than that I reaching as far back to find the next world-class performance TBH. I'm sure you will tell me I'm wrong...perhaps you have seen games I haven't seen...
Are you erect?
I'm always a little erect when you are around - are you still single? I understand that my absence and continued posting on this subject only has made me a bit of an outcast on this site so I'm gonna need all the fiends I can get here. Thanks for your support and for not trying to score some cheap points with your friends on this site by trying to flip me over like a 2 dollar whore. You have always been one of my favorite posters

Gerrard needs runners around him. His production was fantastic last season... but no doubts he was part of our problem defensively. As to be expected though with the change in position. Overall though i did think he had a great season... just unfortunate that he had a nightmare end to it.

I think we'll miss him when he's gone! We do really need to start planning for life without him though. I think we're reasonably well set with a young, dynamic, mobile, midfield options though. I think the main issue will be losing his leadership and experience though. We've got a very inexperienced midfield as it is.
