I think the problem with any contract is that Gerrard will not be happy unless he is playing every game in the big comps, he is unfortunately gone past that imo. Personally I'd be happy for him to stay on as a squad player passing on the captaincy to Hendo. However that is unlikely. BR really has to weigh up what is best for the future of the club, massive decision. If he is not happy with a reduced role, then I'd be inclined to let him move on to a new challenge.

I suspect Brendan has already had that conversation with Stevie and that is why we are seeing this kind of public reaction from him.

By far the biggest regret and issue is that this season will be another transitional journey and we should be building around the next Hamann or alonso at the tender age of about 25 and we will be forced to piss it away on a 34 year old who has no clue how to play HM.

How barca are handling xavi is how we should be handling gerrard. The odd start as well as a great calming influence to close out games

In an ideal world he'd be playing games but in rotation.

I don't think it would hurt him to take a break from the side but I'm not sure who you'd play in midfield at the moment, we talk about Gerrard not having the legs sadly the same can be said for Lucas, Can is a promising talent but can we rely on him for a full season and Allen is hit and miss so far this season.

Could we try a Can, Henderson & Coutinho/Lallana midfield 3?

I think Gerrard himself will know when he can't compete at this level or at a level he's happy with. I have a feeling regardless of whether we offer a contract he may move to the States. It's just whether he would be up for moving with a young family.

Still playing as well as any of our other midfielders right now, Allen & Henderson were much poorer on Saturday and offered nothing.

I still think he could play sweeper but that's no longer in fashion.
