Why are you singling me out. I'm just on here like everyone else to give my opinion but you seem quite intent on pushing me.Originally posted by Chazza View PostReally?
Just post under your original username to make it all a bit easier.
I dont know you or anyone else on here but for some reason you are deliberately making things uncomfortable for me.
What is all that about and what original username ?

I have been thinking along these lines myselfOriginally posted by Gibbo View PostI still think he's the best we have in that defensive midfield position, although that doesn't say masses.
I actually think the change back to 4-3-3 has made it harder for Stevie, when we played the diamond the two midfielders next to him were a lot narrower, so he has Henderson and whoever else providing him a lot more support, now the midifeld is spread out a lot wider due to us pushing our wingers further forward and it leaves Gerrard more isolated, the mixture of this and teams sticking players right on him are making it harder for Stevie.
Personally I think the best course of action, if we can get a more functional defensive midfielder in would be to use him exactly how Barca are using Xavi now, bringing him on in his best position for half an hour or if needs be starting him there and taking him off in the later stages, I think this on the whole will see us get more from Stevie.
Also, I do think confidence will be low; the whole teams is and Gerrard will still has stuff like the slip on his mind. I'm fairly sure he will bounce back to some sort of formBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I'm to the contrary, of course we should give him a new contract if he is still interested in playing. The only questions are how many games he should be playing i.e. being a rotation player more than a key player (still believe we are writing him off a bit to early) and what wages we should be willing to offer to keep him. I doubt he will be getting close to what he does today if we keep him reflecting in his decreasing value.
However he is a great role model for the youngster/locals being the only one of importance left in the side. He has tons of experience that is invaluable on the training field, guiding the new/younger players and he can still kick a ball quite decently.
It's all about balance, and I think we need him for what he still offers us. We have nowhere near that exerpience in the squad outside him. We need to get a better balance in midfield/attack. It's not about Gerrard per se, it's about all the players there. Henderson, Allen, Coutinho, Lallana and so on have all looked out of pace and not finding the balance needed together. Same with Can really, but it's early days and he looks promising. We have seen to many goals conceeded this season by defenders being out of position and half the time it's because the midfield doesn't offer enough support / sleeping when opponents move in to space.
Gerrard is part of that problem, but is also taking to much of the blame. Thankfully he can carry it. But the rest is moving as poorly. Our captain have loads to offer still, and we really need to extend the contract - and then starting to work on the balance in the team. It won't be solved by Gerrard being taken out and getting another of our a bit to slowly reacting midfielders in.

Gerrard would be a great option for City or Chelsea to have in reserve. There is no way we should get rid. What we need to do is sign a player who is better than him. That would automatically make him a reserve.
Atm I still think he's our best player at the base of the diamond. We are not playing well, but if we get sorted again he will be fine. In all fairness this season he's been garbage. But he's one of many. When it gets to the stage where he's being out performed by others, that will be a good thing. It will mean we will have finally replaced him. At present, we haven't.Forwards.......

Again agree with a lot of this but we arent playing the diamond this seasonOriginally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostGerrard would be a great option for City or Chelsea to have in reserve. So we have other midfielders as deep as him and not pressing the ball and I reckon this only encourages Gerrard to vacate the midfield space
Its his natural instinct when others arent doing what needs to be done
This is why I think Brendan shouldnt have meddled with the system, the changes have impacted so many players
Henderson is deeper so cant press as high and finds it difficult to make up the ground to make forward runs in support of / beyond the striker
Gerrard looks and see players as deep as him not pressing as much and feels the need to vacate the space
Sterling has been moved out wide again and because we arent turning the ball high up the pitch is having to run further with the ball
So many dynamics have been changed by the shift in system
This is for me why I would go 2 up top (no matter who it was in that partnership) because I think the other parts of the team will benefit from it alsoBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Mascherano. We never successfully replaced him. He's the best defensive midfielder I've ever seen. Love his energy, commitment and passion. Nasty little ****er too.Originally posted by fah-q View PostTotally irrelevant point but who do you think would make a bigger impact to our current side; Xabi or Mascherano?
