There has been no better all-round player in the premier league. If you were to play 11 games in 11 different positions, it would take a very brave man to bet on anyone else coming away with equal or more man of the match awards than Gerrard.

Not the best at any one thing for sure, but show me someone else who could/can do it all as well as Gerrard did it.

Hope he does move to the US. Better than having the captain on the bench.

I think all round player sums it up. Never quite the very best passer, never quite the very best at anything but nevertheless outstanding at almost everything, could excel in almost any position. There've been spells over the years when he was our best player nigh on every week and he had so many Roy of the Rovers moments. I remember in about May 2003 that 90th minute winner v Charlton, a massively important goal that had a superhuman quality about it. He was desperate for us to get that goal so he ****ing went and did it all by himself, because he wanted to and because he could.

Not to mention his 2006 Cup final efforts. I could be here all night. I refuse to let his demise taint how I remember him. What a player
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

He is unreal. He's been incredible for us, shame to see his demise. Let's hope he has a few more great moments before he finishes.

Clearly the best player was Stig Inge Bjornebye but Stevie is up there.

There's an interview with Jorge Valdano around a decade ago. He was saying this. He was waxing lyrical on Gerrard stating that in the Real Madrid academy they have the most fantastic young players in the world. A lot of them better technically, stronger, faster etc than Gerrard. But none of them with the mentality and just good enough at everything together and able to perform with what they have for the same consistency as Gerrard.

He sometimes used to wind me up a little when he was younger despite being our best player, it seemed that he thought he was bigger than the club. When he gave the transfer request to join Chelsea I was done with him, but the way he came back after that was extremely impressive. And since then, he hasn't looked back and no one can question him.

For all the Paul Sholes comparisons and whether Gerrard was as good as him, there is not one occasion when Scholes can even dream of putting any of Gerrard's superman performances in.

Superman is the right term, very few players can or have reached superman levels in terms of influence (Scholes is not one of them).

                          Gerrard.

On reflection I think he's be right to leave and go to play abroad for a couple of years.
He's given his heart and soul to this football club and has been by a distance the best player ever to play for us.
16 years, probably 12 of them at a world class level, 7 managers and he played in maybe 3 good teams during that time.

His individual performances were astonishing, then factor in generally how **** we were when he delivered them and he's comfortably the best we've had.

Kenny, Souness, Barnes et al were phenomenal players, but they all played in world class teams, teams that were the best in their era.
During Gerrard's Liverpool career I'd guess that on average we've been the 4th or 5th best team in the league.

                            An untameable, force of nature.

I wouldn't begrudge him at all if he chose 2 years in Italy, Spain or Germany to top up a medal collection.
Can't see him going to the MLS just yet.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

It's a regular argument with Mancs - Gerrard is/was better at everything though.

I think most fans wouldnt begrudge him at all and in fact would prefer it if he moved in, The reality is we are a better team wothout him starting and he feels he is better than an impact sub so hopefully it doesnt get to messy and he can go play abroad for a couple of years.
