You don't just lose it overnight and I hope BR realises he can still play an important role for the team if used correctly.
Gerrard's always performed at his best when given no responsibilities and his best defending is when he's not responsible for defending. He's always been like it and we shouldn't really expect him to change. I'm not very good at formations but guess we'd line up something like

    Back 5

    2 from Can/Henderson/Coutinho

    Roaming Gerrard

    3 from Sterling/Lallana/Sturridge/Ballotelli

Thats how I would use him.

But is he better in attacking midfield than Sterling or Coutinho? I say lets build for the future as of now, sadly Gerrard isnt a part of it, unless he accepts a bit part role.
        * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

He is very different to those players and could be just as effective in his own style of play. He is not washed up yet and I think this would be a good solution for him, and most importantly the team.

I get the feeling we are trying to accomodate him and shoehorning him into the side, we might be better without him.

Not having a pop at you Weatherman but I get the feeling he is being written off too soon. He has become a liability overnight and I think that is wrong, he can still offer something to this team IMO, although it is patently clear to anyone that he is not a DM/QB.

Not taken as a pop, we just have different opinions which is fine, I think he should be used as a bit part player now, like Giggs was, as an attacking mid mind you.

                    Agreed.

It seems crazy tbh that he is in a role where he needs 'legs' to be effective, especially against the better teams. I think in the attacking third he is clever enough to time his runs and use other attackers around him to make space.

This is all very civilised, and very reasonable.

I remember opinion was divided. He was effective but it was on the back of widespread condemnation of him as a central midfielder. Consensus was that he lacked discipline and would be better suited in a position of less repsonsibilty. Sounds familiar eh

He finds more physical energy when his brain is given a rest, imo. At the moment he's not suited to any central role and our dominance in midfield against RM adds weight to the argument. I just wish he'd be given a chance there but think ultimately that Brendan's system might not allow for a luxury player. Daft thing is that he's anything but a luxury when he's working well in all areas of the pitch.

Toure was good against Madrid but he also had Lucas in front of him and didn't need to step out of the defence.
seems the general consensus is to move to further up the pitch. I completely agree with this, it negates his defensive frailties & poor positioning and at the same time saves his legs & we gain from his best attributes.... which is his striking of a ball.
