We are not going to get a player who would replace a peak Gerrard in a like for like manner, but the current version is replaceable.
No way is Gerrard right now a more effective player than many of the better midfielders in the game today.
The big question for us is not whether or not the current Gerrard can be replaced, but rather are we capable of attracting the calibre of player we would need to bring in.

ThisOriginally posted by kubrickscube View PostOur big problem is that Gerrard and his role cannot be replaced by anyone we have- No-one has the passing range and dead ball ability
But not thisOriginally posted by kubrickscube View Postbut our other players may function as a team better without him.
Gerrard is blatantly not the player he used to be, and this season doesn't look to be the force he was last season either
Problem is, right here right now, not one of our midfielders are capable of playing where he does.
Can is the only potential option but otherwise I wouldn't like to see anybody else there but GerrardI saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

Tell me what either did that was exceptional? Neither did anything to progress the team forwards. We were just as ****e going forwards v Swansea but got out of jail with the late goals.Originally posted by CAD View PostI would take Lucas vs swansea over Gerrard vs Newcastle

Defence looked a lot better - an individual error contributed to the goal but for the most part looked a lot less porous.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostTell me what either did that was exceptional? This. Lucas doesnt add forward. What he does is add stabillity. He tracks! He is a beacon for the defense. Depend on his tracking. He is reliable and does what a HM Should do. He isnt a worldbeater by any means but when we are OFF the ball Lucas is the better option. Do we really benefit that much from Gerrard when we are on the ball compared to what we lose when are off it? Not even close, sadly.
