If it is true that the substance he has taken wasn't a banned substance how the hell have they been able to ban him for taking it - obviously it was a mistake somewhere but how do they even make these kinds of mistakes? You have a list of banned substances and you test for those substances, if you find a substance in a sample that isn't on the banned list you can't punish someone for it. If you find a substance you believe is on a banned list, surely before going public that someone has failed a drugs test you check that the substance is (still) on a banned list. Failing to do so would be a staggering level of incompetence even by the standards of the footballing authorities.

Once you go public that someone has failed a drugs test that has significant implications for their career.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think the product he has taken has an unlisted banned substance in it, and his defence is he had no way of knowing it.

Regardless of what might have happened to the club in those games you have to feel sorry for the player, he could have been wrongly denied the opportunity to play in a European final, which you don't get many opportunities to do, and he could miss out on playing in the European Championships in his home country.

Are L'Équipe the only ones coming forward with this news?

"And he has no explanation" If he has had the investigation dropped, he obviously had a bloody good reason and explanation for failing the test.

Yeah absolutely I agree it was all very incompetent and detrimental towards Sakho, I just don't think the outcome of the final would have been much different. Well there's no way of knowing anyway.

Final squad has to be named on Tuesday apparently

Beg to differ.....Sakho would have cut out that low cross that lead to the game changing first goal for them

I think we should wait until the truth comes out before we condemn UEFA.

Maybe it is the standard rule to ban a player after a failed drugs test, if so there is nothing to sue against.

The reports I have read haven't mentioned this, I have seen comments such as "the substance he tested positive for is not on the UEFA banned list" which to me suggests it might be on banned lists for other sports and that there has been some confusion between the testing agency and UEFA. Ok the reports I have read might not be accurate (or may not have all the facts) but the 3 or so that I have read all say similar things so taking what they say at face value it looks like a cock up somewhere.

"After he has failed a drugs test" If what is being reported is true Sakho did not fail the drugs test.
