    LIVERPOOL SIGN SAKHO
France football writer Matt Spiro: "Mamadou Sakho's Liverpool switch has upset a lot of PSG supporters. Paris born and bred, the centre-back is a PSG fan and was the last survivor of a promising generation that graduated from the academy six years ago.

"Having first captained the club aged 17, many hoped he'd develop the kind of relationship with PSG that Paolo Maldini enjoyed with AC Milan.

"His status changed, though, when Carlo Ancelotti arrived and expressed concerns over his weight. Thiago Silva replaced Sakho as captain, and when the Brazilian said he'd rather partner his compatriot Alex, a lengthy spell on the bench ensued. The 23-year-old cut his losses when another Brazilian centre-back, Marquinhos, was signed from AS Roma.

"With the World Cup approaching, Sakho, who was first-choice for his country for much of last season, will be desperate to play regularly at Anfield.

"My feeling is he will be a big hit. While he has been more error-prone than usual in the last two seasons, he has speed, power, aggression and tremendous aerial presence, often intimidating his opponents. If Brendan Rodgers can keep him in good shape, Sakho has the potential to become one of the best defenders in England."

Funny how, besides us not having the big name manager, nor the sporting director for it managed to sign him - and add to that we are not a team in the capital, and he is coming from such a great city, we can't offer CL footy and don't pay OTT all the time.

Something has gone completely wrong here.

I thought this little nugget from his was telling about how far we've fallen in the mindset of the modern footballer:

"With regards to the history of Liverpool, the thing that struck me most was the victory in the Champions League final when I was very young. I don't remember how old I was but I was very young and I remember this fantastic event, which always impressed me.
Footballers have short memories. They barely remember us in the Champions League, let alone winning it!

I think it helps emphasise what a coup this signing is. Well done Liverpool!

Eh, this time we paid OTT, IMO of course, and we had more or less no competition at all for him.

It was us or the PSG bench by the look of it.

I doubt that he would have moved to us if it wasn't a world cup year next year IMO.

Identifying a player that no one else was competing for is all part of it though. We managed to sneak in there quickly and get the deal done. Give some credit where it's due for once Arn.

Sneaked in eh. Sakho have moaned about his situation for months. Everyone knew about it.

Of course they deserve some credit.

Or perhaps it is possible to sell the project after all...

Of course there are a lot of factors involved, but I think we have don exceptionally well doing this deal, and I don't think 15m is OTT for one of Europes biggest CD talents.

Up until a few days ago they were adamant they didn't want to sell him. We managed to convince them otherwise. That was good work.

                        Why do I even bother?

Every club says that a player isn't for sale. Suarez is of course for sale IMO but only for the right price and not to a rival even whatever Henry says about it. We sold Torres hours after we said that he isn't for sale.

It is also better for PSG to sell him to us instead of rival in the league/CL.

#Sakho should not have been let go by #PSG. He should be in their team. A brilliant, powerful presence and he can pass the ball too. #lfc
