I wondered if Sakho was a committee signing and Lovren was a Rodgers signing, and it was that reason that Rodgers prefers Lovren to Sakho.

A friend thinks that it may be a desire to get a settled back four, and Lovren is less injury-prone than Sakho, and hence Rodgers prefers him for that reason, I don't know if he has a point or not to be honest. Personally I would always go with the better player when available.

And there where times where Manquillo could've been used last season, And Sahko is pretty much plain to see.

Im not trying to use it at a beating stick, because it's fair enough he wants to play his own players, I was more trying to point out the slight divide it can create.

Markovic will be phased out now and well get peanuts for him, would be better if they just made decisions together.
The Manquillo situation was an odd one, I thought he did ok last season when he played early on, when we changed to 3 at the back it was fair enough leaving him out, but I found it odd we didn't give him a chance when we reverted to a back four.

According to Tony Barrett article in Times he came back to the squad for the trip to Britannia Stadium after his wife gave a birth but BR still did not include him into the team, which is quite different then when Hendo went through the same thing.

It appears BR made up his mind who will be his starting CBs and it won't be Sakho regardless if he is match fit or not.

This is utter rubbish tbh. Rodgers has proved in the past that regardless of who it is, if they impress in training they will get the chance. All that favouritism bull**** mentioned in the press is garbage.

If Lovren doesn't perform and Sakho does (and stays fit for once), by the end of the season Sakho will be first choice. Personally, as long as people are actually performing, I don't care who starts.

Lovren didn't perform last year and was out the team. Tony B can say all the ****e he likes, but Lovren was left out last year even when the season was dead. Dejan started atStoke and was the best centre back on show. If he keeps his place no one can argue.
          Forwards.......

From the Brendan Rodgers thread, sounds plausible no?

            * I may be saying this because I still hope that Sakho will be first choice

Safety first.

So whilst Sakho may still be first choice, the position is now Lovren's to lose.

That would be me guess, it does of course put Sakho at a disadvantage (even if he was considered ahead of Lovren before this was considered), because the Lovren-Skrtel did ok and has been (presumably) working together alot. On that basis I don't see us changing the CB partnership in the short term unless one of Skrtel or Lovren gets injured/suspended or makes an horrendous mistake. Because I think that we probably want to develop a good understanding among the back 4/5

Sure but I do consider Tony Barrett as a very reputable source with inside info into club affairs, which is why I thought his last article about this matter paints quite different picture.

I don't think Barrett has had inside connections for a while, it's all just guess work from available facts now.

Calciomercato - Roma are keen on bringing #Sakho as they look to boost their defensive options ahead of Yanga-Mbiwa's proposed move to Lyon.

Even if he's not first choice we can't let him go without bringing someone else in. If he left we'd only have Sktrel, Lovren and Toure as experienced CBs

BREAKING: @DiMarzio reports that AS Roma are close to securing a deal for 22 year old Stuttgart CB Antonio #Rüdiger.

This would surely rule out those Sakho to Roma rumours.

Didn't it say in the Barrett piece that Sakho was in Paris for 3 days for the birth?

Unless it was a potentially serious or traumatic birth 3 days is too long to be away from training to then expect to play on the Sunday.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Lovren is going to play the league games unless proves to be a disaster.
