I don't like him but recognise he has talent and I like his work effort. He's a bit too fancy dan right now when confidence is low, play the percentages rather than backheels and so on. Get the ball in the net by whatever means. I'm sure he'll convince me in time.

Really? I think he's been terrific, and was one of our only bright sparks in the second half last night. He's trying to make things happen, it might not always come off, but he's already one of our most creative players IMO.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostI don't like him but recognise he has talent and I like his work effort. Last night he was ok to good. He was rubbish at QPR. He's definitely got ability but I just don't 'like him' for some reason. Not sure why, I just don't feel anything for him, that's why a run of good performances and I can easily be swayed by him. He's not in my Lovren or Markovic agenda folder.Originally posted by Pablo View PostReally? I think he's been terrific, and was one of our only bright sparks in the second half last night. Most of those no.10s-types aren't exactly blessed with blazing pace. Ozil, Mata, Cazorla, Iniesta, Sneijder, Silva etc. Pace can be overrated at times for certain players and where they play on the pitch. Would it be nice to have CR7/Bale-esque speed whilst having Iniesta-like ability? Well yeah but you'd probably be called Lionel Messi as he is one of the very few with lightening pace and frightening playmaking ability as well.Originally posted by captainfog View PostHe lacks half a yard of pace to be a real top player. He's been very good though.

I get what you mean.Originally posted by captainfog View PostI'm not talking about lightening pace, but he doesn't have that initial burst that someone like coutinho has.
Ronaldo is incredible at that. It's so easy for him. All he has to do is knock it a few yards out of his stride and he's so rapid he always beats the opposition to the ball and is able to get a shot away. He did it time and time again to us last night, and not one of our players could cope with it. It's basically cheating.

It is cheating. FIFA should force him to wear ankle weights like women that go jogging do. Its only fair to the rest of planet earth. One tit for another.

We just overpaid for an average player on the basis of him playing one good season in the English top flight at the age of 25. Perhaps he just overperformed last season, and is now back at his normal level?
I hope that he soon finds a level to force his way in to the team, because we reall need some more creativity and a player that can take on players. Hopefully he is more than an ephemera...
