I'd argue the clause was too low. Spurs had sold Bale the summer before for more than the clause was set for and Suarez was twice the player of Bale even at that stage.

Bale was 3 years younger and had a cleaner image with no threat of future suspensions.

For his talent we should have gotten close to 100 million but there was no way we were getting that given his baggage. While 65 million is disappointing, I am more concerned by our inability to replace talent. Even if we had gotten 100 million for Suarez we would have most likely blown that money.

We sold him for a very poor amount but you are spot on as regards the real issue in all this and it's one that still hangs over us today, all the same people responsible for it are all still involved in spending our money. Bar Rodgers obviously. Hopefully Klopp has enough influence to prevent further wastage but that remains to be seen.
