I think this is the most likely outcome. According to the laws of the game, these are the reasons a player can be sent off:

    SENDING-OFF OFFENCES

A player, substitute or substituted player who commits any of the following offences is sent off:

    - denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area)
    - denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent whose overall movement is towards the offender's goal by an offence punishable by a free kick (unless as outlined below)
    - serious foul play
    - spitting at an opponent or any other person
    - violent conduct
    - using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
    - receiving a second caution in the same match

The ref, only inches away, didn't send Firmino so he either didn't hear, or didn't understand what he (Firmino) said. He can't now state in his report that Firmino said anything that would warrant a suspension because it would make him look negligent for doing ****-all about it at the time.

Lets hope it doesn't pan out like this:

FA: Mr Firmino, you've been accused of racially abusing an opponent, what have you got to say for yourself?

BF: No, Sir, I called him a son of a bitch!

FA: Ahhh I see. Thanks for clearing that up Mr. Frimino, that will be a three match ban for foul and abusive language.

It's the FA, it doesn't need to be consistent or make sense. Holgate has complained of racism, the FA think they have to be seen to punish that in some way and they know that there will be irrational whingers complaining if Holgate receives a punishment of any kind.

Only we could have one of our players assaulted and end up with our lad, the victim getting the ban for it.

If Firmino gets a couple of matches ban, will Everton rejoice and release a DVD and call for Holgate to get an OBE?

But then I presume we would rightly question why nothing was done about the dangerous incident. Why our player was punished without evidence when there player gets away with an offence with clear evidence.

The FA have no answer for that and I think they will be doing their best to bury it ASAP.

Or... they will both get warnings.

                    holgategate.

the little puta has done well to divert attention from what should have been a straight red car for pushing firmino into and over the hoarding. at the very least that should have been a yellow card.

this "racist" claim is all bollox, but as has been mentioned, once they consider the evidence they may well just see it as foul and abusive language and give a 3 match ban.

If there is no racist comment charging Firmino for calling him a son for a bitch would be a joke given what Holgate did to him.

Note i'm aware that the FA are a joke so anything is possible

The fact that we are even discussing it is ludicrous. There is no way Firmino is getting a ban.

The Suarez incident was bad enough, although it was fully believable that he was trying to wind Evra up, but Bobby is too nice, more chance he was inviting Holgate round for dinner than racially abusing him.

Can't believe this wasn't killed in the post match press conferences.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

The amount of comments over something that was basically handbags at dawn.

Shoulda been booked at least. Who cares. Been far far worse in derbys down the years.

I'might assuming that onceverything the complaint has been made the club's don't want to say anything thato could be deemed to prejudice the investigation
