The sooner Blatter ****s of and FIFA eventually replace goals with basketball nets, the better.

Philippe Coutinho: Roberto Firmino signing is "great news" for Liverpool FC

                  11:16, 27 JUNE 2015
                  BY NEIL JONES

Brazilian star already looking forward to next season at Anfield

Philippe Coutinho believes Roberto Firmino’s signing is “great news” for Liverpool FC, and says he is already looking forward to the new season.

Coutinho will be joined at Anfield by his international colleague, with Liverpool having this week agreed a £29m deal to bring Firmino from Hoffenheim.

The attacking midfielder is one of five new Reds signings, with a sixth – Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne – expected to follow next week.

And Coutinho says Firmino’s capture, in particular, represents a fine capture for the club. The pair are currently away representing Brazil together at the Copa America in Chile.

“I think it is great news,” Coutinho told Liverpool’s official website. “Bob is a great player and obviously I know him from the Brazilian national team. He is a great character and person.

“He is strong physically, he is fast, agile, very skilful on the ball and he scores a lot of goals - he is a great forward. I am sure he will be of great help to us next season.

“After hearing the news, I said to him ‘welcome to Liverpool’ and I have told him that he will be coming into a club that is like a family - I made sure to tell him that.

“I have also wished him a great and very successful first season at Liverpool.”

Firmino’s signing follows the arrivals of James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez earlier in the month, and with the Reds looking to bounce back after a disappointing campaign last time around, Coutinho believes the feel-good factor has returned to Anfield.

He said: “I’m very much looking forward to playing and starting the new season alongside Bob at Liverpool. I am looking forward to not only playing for Liverpool again, but trying to help us get into a position to win trophies.

“As I said, I am very happy he has signed for Liverpool - but not only him, all of the other signings we’ve made recently as well. I’m sure all of these new players are coming in to make our team even stronger for the new season.

“I can’t wait to start the Premier League season. I am very hopeful things will go well for us on the pitch this season.”

I can't help but find it strange that Phil is speaking to the official but not a word from Brendan.

Coutinho was talking to the media in general at a tournament wasn't he? Brendan is on holiday. I'm guessing that when Coutinhos on holiday we don't hear much from him either.

Tbh I'd rather we heard nothing from Rodgers until day 1 of pre season when all the back room team should be squared away & our transfer business all but done.
                              Forwards.......
