They're not at all. At Villa they played to his strengths, pumping ball after ball up at him to win. Villa also generally didn't ever have to put up with playing against 9 defenders, like we quite often do

He's proven that for the right team, he's one of the most effective strikers in the league. Issue is that we are absolutely not that right team

Its so frustrating watching him struggle. He wants a ball played a.couple.of yards in fron of him, and played as soon as we break, a fast pass, done quickly.
all this take it wide, stop, fake left the right, take.it to the byline and stop, etc... lallana and ibe mostly fanny around with their wing play, too self obsessed, they are never going to allow benteke to prove his worth.

He was great for the 3rd goal, but for alot of the game he was poor. He's still not making the right runs or moves and at times he looks uninterested.

Agreed. He had an insane amount of time on the ball for the 3rd though. Decent turn and pass but there wasn't anyone within 5 yards of him!

our 'technical' players often try to be too technical and they forget about being effective...
we give the oppo too much time to regroup and then usher our midfielders out wide to mess about over by the touchline while they get the buses parked.

That is kind of what I was saying, in a more roundabout way. What I mean is the issues that have always been part of his play are exposed with us because we play differently and teams play differently against us. Benteke was obviously effective at Villa. But the deficiencies in his game were noticeable there, but they didn't have the impact they do for us.

I was going to comment on the match thread about that but as my stream was a minute off real-time the reaction to the Norwich goal on the thread had moved the "narrative" on (thanks to American telly for that) so didn't bother but at the time I just put my head in my hands. It just seemed to sum him up.
