He did ok for us yesterday but I don't think he suits us AND if we're going to continue with one up top Sturridge, Orig, Ings and Firmino would all be ahead of him in the pecking order to start for us.

Tough to see where he fits in long term but I guess it's down to him to convince JK he's worth his place

Alright, we got it the first time.
        3rd place. Worst champions ever.

He was good when he came on. Has had a nightmare at LFC but credit where it is due... that peno was ballsy.

Liverpool face having to pay £120,000-a-week striker Christian Benteke, 25, to play elsewhere if they want to offload him this summer. (Daily Mirror)

West Ham are interested in signing Benteke but are unlikely to be be willing to offer the Belgium international more than £80,000 a week, meaning Liverpool may have to contribute towards his wages.(Times - subscription required)

With the new tv money we won't have any issue offloading imo.
              Hello mert.

There's no mention of a loan but in what other circumstance would we subsidise wages? Surely that's down to a negotiated contract?

What if we turned around to Benteke and said he's not moving unless he takes a wage cut, as we're unwilling to subsidise his demands?

Based on my Football Manager knowledge, sometimes the player will take a lower wage at another club but only if you subsidise his wage for how ever long he has on his contract with you- still selling him, but paying £xxx per week for a few seasons

It happened with Fowler whern he left Leeds.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Unless it's a loan I think we can put the talk of us contributing to his wages up there with other football make believe like player swaps and Cantona's footballing ability. He'll get a golden handshake negotiated as part of his release that will act as a buffer when he drops in wages.

Pretty sure Spurs are still paying a chunk of Adebayors salary at Palace.
                          * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

That's the most common approach, but if clubs can't afford the big pay off (or if it's better to spread cost with FFP), then I think it's still a possibility.

If you check wiki it says that Leeds still payed Fowler's wages at City and this was an announcment when he joind us.

                            From LeedsUnited-mad.co.uk:

"LEEDS have confirmed they are still paying Robbie Fowler a wage following his move to Liverpool yesterday.

The former England striker had a 14-month spell at Elland Road and as part of the agreement which took him to Manchester City, Leeds agreed to keep paying Fowler some of his wages, to make up for the shortfall which came with moving to Eastlands.

Leeds chief operating officer Shaun Harvey told the Yorkshire Post that agreement would stand until the summer, the time Fowler's contract at Leeds was originally due to expire.

Harvey said: "Our agreement is with Robbie Fowler and as such there will be no change.

"Leeds are not going to be relieved of any financial burden, the deal was agreed that Leeds would continue to pay Robbie Fowler until the middle of 2006 and that deal stands no matter where he plays."

                              Peter Risdale what a moron.

It's not as black and white as my post probably comes across but it will be an agreement with the player as an individual. If the player and the club are happy for payments to be made in instalments, I'm sure that would take place. The way it's reported is as if West Ham (in this case)!will invoice Liverpool each month asking for £250,000. The reality is that we might just be sending Benteke a negotiated fee in the weekly BACS run.

I still doubt Benteke is on that amount of coin. Especially when FSG are keen to have a minimal base pay with incentives added on. The way Benteke is playing, he'll owe us when he leaves.
