Reading here over the past month, i have felt Benteke has got a really hard time. IMO alot of the detractors that seen him as just a lump or target man... really haven't watched him properly. The Andy Carroll/Lambert comparisons are blatantly untrue, he is everything they are not.

I think we've brought in a player that not only is a goalscorer, but can function outside the box too. He will be fantastic for us at defending set pieces too, much like Drogba did at Chelsea so many times. If he does not succeed here, it won't be from lack of quality IMO ... it'll just be one of those things.

I think once he stays injury free and settles in, he will be a great signing for us. Can't wait to see him in a 4-3-3 and hopefully he can get the all the fans on his side.
I think that most of the problems people have had with the Benteke signing isn't so much about his ability, it is about whether/how he would fit into the system that we are wanting to play, it is very apparent that Villa played a very different system to us, and he did well in that system, would he do well in our system? - If so great if not we have spent alot of money on him for little reward. I have seen most of the comments about Benteke's signing as a critisism of the people at the club, Rodgers, the transfer committee and to a lesser extent the scouts, who combined to spend alot of money last summer with very little to show for it, rather than critisism of Benteke himself.

FWIW I think that he will be a decent signing, I don't see another Balotelli situation hopefully he will be go on to be a great player for us. We need to get the best out of him, I think Rodgers is essentially gambling his job on this working out, so I imagine the management team will be doing all they can to ensure it does.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I'm converted. He'll be a beast for us.

benteke is going to get goals.
if our team with all the running and pressing from midfield and our excellent coaching and man management structure cant find a way to get some service to him and get other players around him when he is charging towards the box then the whole club needs to be sacked.

the fault wont be on benteke

and i agree, this is rodgers last roll of the dice. i dont think many of the squad fringe players will go on loan as he will want all the cards available to him.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

This is the thing though mate, what system exactly are people talking about? The SAS system? Two of those players are gone and one is permanently injured. And sure last season we flip flopped so much & played players everywhere, so we never really had a system.

People keep saying he won't suit our style of play, I'm just curious to know what exactly that is? Because ever since Suarez left, it doesn't seem like anyone including Rodgers knows. For me, we need a goals scorer who is mobile and can be a focal point, that is Benteke. We need legs and quality in the middle and down the channels and that is Coutinho, Firmino, Hendo, Can, Milner, Ibe, Markovic.

I think there is a lot of goals in our side now, IMO it's just up to Rodgers to pick his best team and stick to an effective formation. I do agree that the Benteke signing could make or break Rodgers.

I'm so excited for the beginning of the season. We need to just blitz the **** out of the competition for the first 15 minutes and get Benteke in the mix(er).

IMO we have a very balanced and effective side on paper. Hopefully we can click into gear from the get go. It's a fixture list with not much room for error, very tough. If we can get out of that initial poxy start with some decent figures... we could very well have a great season.

We've brought alot of players in, always worries me how long it takes for them to bed in.

                I quite like our start.

We should be extra motivated to beat Stoke on the opening day, as well as having the extra quality, so hopefully that should go well for us. We’ll then have Bournemouth at home, which on the back of a Stoke win could be a big win for us and a chance for some of our new signings to get on the score sheet.

Those two results should then have us brimming with confidence and should be able to give Arsenal a game, although I suspect they will beat us (and go on to have a very good season). Beat West Ham at home and the United game could go either way, then we’ve two home games that will put us comfortably in the top 4.

All hinges on Stoke for me though. Honestly believe if we beat them we could go on to have a very good season, but lose and we'll be up against it and possibly may not recover from our difficult start.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Last season we didn't really have one, the SAS system has gone, it went with Suarez, the absence of Sturridge. Last season many of us were in denial about that last season. It might be the way we want to play, but we have to play to the strength of the players we have.

completely agree. I just didn't get why people kept talking about "Benteke not fitting in with our system" as we actually don't have one at the moment & haven't since Suarez left.

Lets hope that Rodgers has one in mind that plays to our strengths and keeps the balance in the side.
