I'm delighted we got those players for cheap and you can add Klavan to that list also. Mane/Gini seem to be value for money when you look at other prices going.

My point was that IMO we are still weak in CM & at LB and I had hoped we buy two players for those positions regardless of their cost.

A LB and CM could make all the difference and we would still only of spent around £30-40 million
Oh I say his vision there was lovely

Yeah, if we had a controller or a rolls royce of a CM it'd give us much more composure i reckon. We're all too erratic and this could be smoothed over with a calm, assured player in there. Maybe Can is that player, I think he's a bit raw yet though.

And yes, an identikit to Clyne at LB would be nice for my nerves. Moreno is the very anthesis of calm and assured.

Other than that though, pretty happy with our options as it stands.

I agree with that and wasn't aimed at you (or anyone in particular), however I don't think we'll be signing a CM. I think most of us agreed that we needed to add another CM in the summer and none of us thought Wijnaldum was that player when he signed, but clearly he is and I think Klopp is happy with what he's go for now.

Now that the Benteke deal is done I still think/hope we'll go and sign a LB.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Agree re the CM - I think we'll try for Dahoud next season and that we'll also buy a defender but probably a utility player who can cover both full back slots.

I think it makes sense to hold off, give Henderson a chance to prove himself now he’s fit and see how Grujic settles in. If Can stays fit, we only really have one CM slot available, with Henderson, Wijnaldum, Grujic, Milner, Stewart and Lucas all able to play there. I wouldn’t completely rule out a January move, especially if Can picked up an injury, but I think he’ll maybe wait a year, consider moving Milner and/or Henderson on and assess how the younger players have progressed.

Having said that, looking at that list, I can see why some people are taking a pessimistic view and want us to sign a top midfielder. Can has had a few injuries since joining, Henderson has to prove he is over his heel problem, Wijnaldum needs to prove himself in that role, Grujic is young and new to the league (although I have extremely high hopes), Milner is better further forward and our first choice LB currently, Stewart is young and at most a squad player most likely and Lucas could still go and is probably more CB than CM now.

With no CL, I think he is taking the right approach although plans could obviously change if the right player became available before the current window shuts.

Dahoud is available now at the right price hence him only on the bench for the CL qualifier but tbh I have never seen him play so wouldn`t know if it`s worth the gamble of a few extra quid

He definitely is the one name that keeps popping up and you are probably right, that if he was available then we'd be in for him.

We were linked with him last year and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was our No.1 target this summer, so when BM said he’s not for sale, we decided to go for Wijnaldum and are now willing to let Dahoud's contract run down. Obviously if he's available now, that forces our hand somewhat.

                        One of two reasons -

They're testing the team without him or they'd rather not risk him in a ****ty qualifier they expected to win.

Hopefully we can make the top four this year and go big next summer to bring in top quality players to push us on another level.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

What's been so pleasing this summer is that rather than selling our best players for big fees, we've actually been able to generate a lot of value from people on the periphery of the squad. We've no need to be at all concerned about net spend if that's the case, it actually shows that our transfer policy over the last few years has maybe not been an entire disaster and I don't think there's any doubt that we've improved our squad this summer as well as creating an even better financial position to be able to lure top targets in future. People surely can't try to spin that as a bad thing because we haven't had a massive deficit in our business this window?
we're gonna save it all up to buy Suarez back
