Good luck to the guy, don't think he ever truly got a fair crack of the whip here, but in reality he was always going to struggle getting picked ahead of what we have.

He's a decent player but he was never suited to our style of play, stupid signing by Rodgers, best for everyone that he's gone now.Originally posted by Tee View PostGood luck to the guy, don't think he ever truly got a fair crack of the whip here, but in reality he was always going to struggle getting picked ahead of what we have. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It was always a strange signing.
He's just not the sort of player that would ever do well at Liverpool. To play to his strengths, would have meant jettisoning the style of football that our fans want to see.
Add to that that when Klopp came in his type of front foot pressing game is even less suited to Benteke and highlighted the weaknesses in his game, ultimately making him look slow and lazy, unable to get a game even during injury crisis. Who will forget the games when Klopp was going ballistic and Bentekes lack of movement?
He'll likely do much better at Palace.Modifying post.

Yeah it was a very strange signing. Like Andy Carroll it was never, ever going to work. It's so frustrating when most of the lads on here can see it and the manager can't, creaming £32m on him - and £35m on Carroll.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostIt was always a strange signing.

I honestly still think Carroll was a somewhat reasonable gamble under the circumstances. At least we had a plan to use him. Benteke never made any sense and it was clearly a thought through and deliberate move, even though he didn't fit any pattern of play we intended to employ.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostYeah it was a very strange signing. We have not played with a big man up top since Toshack. It was madness of Dalglish to think Carroll would fit in with the team style; I wondered whether he did not fully understand what he was getting with Suarez and was thinking of him and Carroll as a Keegan and Toshack combo.Originally posted by dww View PostI honestly still think Carroll was a somewhat reasonable gamble under the circumstances. Benteke was a mad, mad buy. A guy who scores goals but weakens teams.
