If in 2018 we are still comparing ourselves to that era, then everything will look bad. It's different now and Klopp is correct to say what he has.

I am a massive Klopp fan and I agree re the different eras but we are a fickle fan base and saying Shankley would be happy coming fourth is leaving himself open for ridicule.

As I said imagine the fume if Rodgers had said it.

He never actually said Shankly would be happy.

If you could bring Bill Shankly back into the club now and ask him 'are you happy with fourth?' because he was a fantastic football manager he would have seen that this is the only way we can go.

“You need to do what we are doing to be in a position to win something one day.

“To just want it more desperately than other clubs doesn't make it more likely to happen. That's how it is.

“You need to do all your homework and when the time comes, you have to catch it.

Klopp's referring to getting 4th, securing Champions League football again, meaning more money and glamour to build the squad to a point where it can challenge for the top trophies.

He's implying Shankly would've seen that in the current climate, and understood it was the way to go given our resources, and recent history, in comparison to others.

I thought this was interesting in terms of how Klopp views our players:

All depends how you view games doesn't it .

Salah has been incredible on every level , joined in the summer and smashing it up and playing nearly every game.
