It's easy forget that South America players particularly have so much hanging on to and depending on them. Not just the leaches who are agents and managers, and not just the hangers on, and not just the immediate family. But often, the extended family back home and even whole villages.
Any decision they take regarding their career goes beyond any responsibility to just themselves. People go on about how these players don't have any loyalty any more, but that's missing the point. They have tremendous loyalty to the point of putting themselves second or third... To their families and those around them.
It's relevant because the season that's almost over was, in the eyes of many fans, going to implode because of that decision. It didn't, and it's an important part of the story. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I think there's a sort of mafia element to it as well as the romanticism around family loyalty. These kids are bought up my the leeches at a young age, with their families paid off, and their fate determined by them going forward. They are effectively trafficked to Mediterranean countries and pimped to clubs. They do as they are told on the promise of fame and riches and this continues even if they become successful. The dream of Real and Barca largely stems from them being the dream of the intermediaries imo, because those clubs are particularly rich and corrupt as **** behind the scenes, paying them through the nose for their pimping services and building close 'business' relationships. It is also an easy part of the EU to gain work permits. The whole system is deeply wrong imo.Originally posted by dom9 View PostIn what way?

superb read, confirms most the Coutinho stuff, he loved it here but Barca was too big a lure.
Was annoyed at him for not giving us a full season with the level he had reached, could have really ballsed are season up. Now we are top 4 and in the final. I can forgive him, we might not have hit this heights with him. Mane has adapted his game, Milner/AOC have took their chance and overall we look a more balanced side.
I forgot the cheeky ****s offered 72 million in the summer

I also think back when the Phil transfer was ‘going down’ There was a lot of ‘**** him, he plays for us until the summer’ chat.
There was clearly a scenario forming where he was becoming disruptive, and it is naive to think that just because they are well paid footballers that the mood within the collective is not affected by one individual.
Clearly everything was done to attempt to make him stay, but in the end moving on without him was the right decision.
That article highlights a pragmatic approach to leadership within the club that really bodes well for the future.Modifying post.

Maybe he was happy to put his own dream on hold but his wife wasn’t? Or maybe making his family happiest takes priority over anything else (as it should).Originally posted by Norbs View PostThen just say that and not use your wife as an excuse

Because, as millionaires living in the 21st century, their dietary options must be very limited.Originally posted by dom9 View PostAnd Iberian culture generally is something that the players and their families are more comfortable with, from the languages to the climate, to the food.
Imagine growing up on a diet of picanha then being presented with a bowl of scouse or a battered sausage?
