Sadio Mane will return to Liverpool after the Community Shield fixture against Manchester City.

The forward has started an end-of-season break following Senegal’s run to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, in which they were beaten 1-0 by Algeria.

Mane is set to rejoin the Reds on Monday August 5 ahead of the Premier League opener against Norwich City at Anfield, Jürgen Klopp has confirmed.

“He is in good shape,” the manager told Liverpoolfc.com.

“Obviously they had a celebration in Senegal and I’m happy about that because it showed that they respect the competition and saw the second place as a success, which is nice.

“He is now on holiday, not the longest one – he will be back on August 5, after the Manchester City game. That means he had two weeks. There is four or five days to prepare for Norwich, 10 days for Chelsea [in the UEFA Super Cup].”

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand it's good to get him back early and in contention to face Norwich. But on the other hand, a two week break is nothing. He's been playing non stop for the past year.

I think we'll see Brewster feature quite a bit early on. It also depends on what kind of Origi we see, whether it's pre-Everton injury, or last season's Origi.

last season was a brutal slog & then add going all the way to the final of the AFCON.. not ideal at all & tough even for a machine like Sadio. He is one of the best players in the world currently and we need him fresh and fit for the first game.

I agree mate. If the drop off in quality when he is out weren't so big I doubt we would be asking him to cut short his break.

Exactly why we need to bring in an attacker of proven quality. If we start the season slow we can all but forget about challenging City

Yep. It's not just about how Sadio performs at the start of the season, it's how he is in the later stages. We need reliable replacements so that he can get a rest

                That’s a bit dramatic

The problem is that this attacker of proven quality knows he will get shifted to the bench and will not start any of the big games and finals.

Well, it is a bit dramatic, however it is our squad's most worrying flaw and it's not inconceivable that will be exposed at some point. At times last season I felt like we ran the front three into the ground for lack of quality alternative. Origi and Shaqiri are very decent backups, but at our level we need someone good enough that they can push for starts.

Pushing for starts in selected lesser games rather than competing for the big games would seem the logical approach but Jurgen's not done that in the past and has preferred to select his best players if available
