I think his raw pace and his willingness to use that pace would have seen them leave a lot more space as they would have been forced to double up on him.

What he has shown in a very short span of time is how desperate we are to have at least one more attacking player with genuine pace so that we still have one in the team if the other is injured and two to blitz teams with when both are fit.

Origi is quick enough, but he does not bring the same sort of direct speed merchant threat that Mane looks to bring with him.

Seems pace is the answer Jaco , and Origi and Mane are key to that , otherwise we are one paced with the other ball players in the team,

I don't think Origi is key tbh. Not that I don't rate him, because I do, but rather because he does not seem to have the same sort of mixture of blistering acceleration and pace coupled with good close control and determination that Mane looks to have in spades.

Take Origi out of the team but still have Mane in it and we still have a very direct threat to worry other teams, but take Mane out and put Origi in and we do not have the same fast direct threat.

For me we need another Mane level player in the squad, and Origi would the guy who competes with Sturridge to play ahead of the pace merchants.

If heavy metal football is what Klopp wants to bring to us a la what he had at Dortmund, then we need more high end pace in the final third as well as an improvement on the pace we have in the centre (although decent pace rather than blistering pace for there).

        imo of course

Oji offering options on the other flank will also help with width.

We have a few players that can offer width, but offering pace, control, and the confidence/arrogance to just go at players is what I want to see our wide players having.

Ojo is probably a few years off being that player ( hopefully he does become that player), and as such would like to see another fast quality attacker added ( although not at the expense of a quality midfielder and/or left back if it became a one or the other type scenario)

When we played Burnley we had Neither in the team ,

I think if Mane is not there then Origi should be in the starting eleven,

I guess Ings must not be fit enough at the moment as his workrate and pace would seem to suit it as well.

I heard a rumour that Lionel Messi has a Sadio Mane pencil case.....

Oh if it was a choice of having Origi in the team if Mane was out then I would have Origi in as we currently have nobody else that can offer a genuine change in pace in our team.

We seem to have an awful lot of players in our attack and midfield that offer very average acceleration and/or sprint speed. Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, Can, Henderson, Milner, and Sturridge (at least that is how he looks post injury) all bring very beige levels of pace with them and for the most part are not going to have opposition players backing off of them or doubling up on them.

Mind you what is worse than our player's lack of actual pace is the way that we seem to be very one paced in our play a hell of a lot. We seem to have a mid paced tempo that we just stick with and when teams sit back against us (a la Burnley) we just stick with the same paced patterns of play over and over and, save for the chance of a worldie out of the blue, our same paced waves of attacks just break on back lines that have the time to organize themselves.

And width, that is Guardiola's mantra. He signed Douglas Costa and Coman to go with Ribery & Robben for Bayern.

He signed Sane, Nolito & Juan Jesus to go with Sterling for City. Stretch teams with wide fast forwards creates so much space for the rest of the team.

We could do with another Mane type player for the other side.

I reckon we'd be better off if we had kept hold of Sterling.

Didn't mean to **** stir, and he has been largely patchy for City overall, but his pace was a vital ingredient of our Suarez led success and when the effete dinosaur armed money grabbing little Richard alike left, we sorely missed that pace in our attack.

I thought there was little end product but loads of off your seat moments with Sterling with us but do the stats show me as being wrong?

Couldn't hit the proverbial cows arse with a barn door.

Rest of his game is excellent, though it's a fairly big downside for an attacking player.

I think we did the right thing at that money.

I think Markovic is quicker anyway's if he gets the rest of his stuff together.
