I think what people confuse is that our midfield have the ability to be creative and score, it's just that their jobs don't afford the chance to do so all that often. Hendo or Gini nicking the ball off one of City's Superstar front 6 is no less brilliant than a decisive pass in the final third.

Fabinho is a lot of the time the highest up field when we do not have the ball as the other two cover and help us remain in shape. Sometimes it's Gini and sometimes it's Hendo. We started dropping off and allowed City to dictate the game when Hendo came off on Sunday. He was covering that right side brilliantly and Sterling could not exert too much an influence on the game until the last 15/20 mins.Originally posted by Norbs View PostI think what people confuse is that our midfield have the ability to be creative and score, it's just that their jobs don't afford the chance to do so all that often. We are not as effective when our high press is not functioning and our challenge is to keep that up until the end of the season. Are we winning?

I've not been back through this thread looking for my old posts but one of the things that I remember saying about him in the early days was that I didn't really know what type of player he was and what his role in the side should be. I think now we've found a role that suits him and he's become a top player.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI remember being nonplussed and confused by his signing - just read the first few pages of this thread and a good few us made tits of ourselves
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Same. When we signed him I thought he'd be playing further forward and was there to add goals more than anything. Was really surprised how he performed playing deeper.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI remember saying about him in the early days was that I didn't really know what type of player he was and what his role in the side should be.Like blood on iron

He's one of the most complete players out there. He played wing at Feyenoord, 8 at PSV, 10 or as a wide forward at Newcastle. In a liverpool shirt he has played all of those plus 6 before Fabinho came, false 9 at Barca and even that one game against Brighton as a makeshift centre back.
If you didn't know what type of player he was it's likely only because he's so versatile.
the only weaker part of his game is finishing but if his role allows, he scores goals. Has been banging them in for the Netherlands recently.Last edited by Corndog; 12-11-19, 09:48 AM.Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

That sums me up in a nutshell too. I don’t mind watching the highlights of other teams matches but not the whole match.Originally posted by Scratch View PostI'm quite thankful I don't watch a lot of football outside of us, so when we are linked with a player I never have enough info to have an opinion one way or the other about how good/bad they might be
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Ouch, that hasn't aged well.Originally posted by redmike65 View PostI see your point but Milner is surely in his last season at the club so if he wants someone to fill that role in the medium term then I'd say Wijnaldum is probably that player.
